Klojen, (malangkota.go.id) – Coinciding with Earth Day which falls today, Thursday (22/4/2021), SMP Katolik Santa Maria 1 Malang held an activity entitled "Restore Our Earth".
This activity was supported by the Deputy Mayor of Malang, Ir. H. Sofyan Edi Jarwoko by providing 50 pule tree seedlings. Bung Edi also planted the 4.468th tree in the school area located on Jalan Puteran.
"Regarding the planting of pule trees, this is part of our obligation, both the government and God's creation, in preserving and caring for our environment. In planting and caring for these trees, there are values that can be inherited, namely the value of compassion, the value of love for fellow God's creations," said Bung Edi, Sofyan Edi Jarwoko's nickname.
"If we love, if we like planting, if we like caring for trees, of course we will like and love others more," he continued.
These are the character values that will and will continue to be conveyed about character education, especially the love of planting and caring for trees as an expression and manifestation of love for fellow creations of God.
Regarding the Covid-19 pandemic, Bung Edi said that the potential in Malang City is in terms of education. When education has started, children and students will start studying again, and people who have boarding houses and sell food can start working again. "Therefore, the economy can start working again when everyone has started their activities," he said.
This is what will support the economic recovery of the community. Through this activity, it is hoped that it will encourage students to be active in loving and caring for the earth. "So that harmony is created between humans and nature as a reflection of the beauty of nature itself and the Deputy Mayor of Malang has set an example for all of us," said the Principal of SMP Katolik Santa Maria I Malang, Sr. M. Fortunata, SPM., M.Hum.
Sr. Fortunata added that the 50 tree seedlings given by the Deputy Mayor of Malang will not only be planted at SMP Katolik Santa Maria 1 Malang. But will also be distributed to TK and SD Katolik Santa Maria 1 Malang, the Sisters' Convent, parents, and local residents. (ari/ram)
