Riza Rahman Hakim said, OHOP koi is a development of fish farming business in limited land which currently has very good prospects. Unlike the cultivation of cultivated fish for consumption, koi fish can have many times the profit.

"By only utilizing a 2x1 meter tarpaulin pool and a 1X½ meter aquarium pool, OHOP koi can become a business," explained Riza, who is also a lecturer in the Fisheries Department at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM).

Unlike fish for consumption that are sold per kilogram, koi fish are sold per tail at a good and stable price. Especially during the current pandemic, it turns out that the demand for koi fish is actually increasing because people are doing more activities at home.

"From a year of developing OHOP koi that I did, requests continued to flow. Not only from Malang Raya, requests also came from Bandung and Jakarta," said Riza.

Riza added that the demand for koi fish is never quiet and cannot be separated from the uniqueness of koi hobbyists when keeping fish. Because even though they already have a lot of fish, a koi hobbyist is definitely interested in looking for more.

"If the pond is not big enough, koi hobbyists usually choose to sell their collection and buy better quality ones," said Riza.

Based on that experience, Riza finally concluded that in order for koi fish to sell well, people must continue to provide quality koi fish. Through that experience, it is actually easier to sell quality koi even though the price is expensive compared to koi with ordinary quality.

With the innovations made today, Riza is happy to be able to fulfill the desire to be able to produce new findings every year. This OHOP koi innovation further completes the discoveries of the man who lives on Jalan Titan, Malang City. (cah/ram)
