East Java Province Region 1 Increases Digital Literacy

Malang, (malangkota.go.id) – The Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kemenkominfo) is trying to improve digital infrastructure and the capacity of Indonesian human resources to have digital literacy. This is in accordance with the direction of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, regarding the importance of human resources with digital talent.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said that the pandemic has opened up a wide opportunity to carry out a massive digital transformation, such as developing a digital economy for MSMEs. Thus, the community must be prepared to be digitally literate, so that they can use digital platforms wisely and be useful.

"The challenges in the digital space are getting bigger. Negative content is increasing, digital-based crimes and radicalism must be watched out for. We must flood the digital space with positive content that educates and calls for peace," Jokowi hoped, Thursday (27/5/2021).

Jokowi also expressed his deep appreciation for the 110 institutions and communities involved in this National Digital Literacy. "I hope this movement rolls and continues to grow, and can also encourage various initiatives in other places to do concrete work in the community so that they are more capable of utilizing the internet for educational and productive activities," he continued.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Communication and Information has targeted to reach 50 million people to receive digital literacy by 2024. In 2021, specifically 12,5 million people have been targeted to receive digital literacy. This is important to do because the use of information and communication technology (ICT) and the internet is currently increasingly massive. So it is necessary to increase the ability and understanding of the community in the correct use of ICT and the internet through the implementation of digital literacy programs in the regions.

The National Digital Literacy Program "Indonesia Makin Cakap Digital" is held in stages according to the designated regions. Likewise for the East Java I region, including Malang City, on Thursday (27/5/2021) the "Indonesia Makin Cakap Digital" Webinar was held virtually and attended by around 230 participants.

The virtual class of Indonesia Makin Cakap Digital East Java presents competent speakers in their fields, namely Daniel Octavianus Atmadja, Muhamamad Arifin, Ang Denny Wiajaya, Mardi, and Anelis Praramadhani as Key Opinion Leader.

In today's class, several interesting materials were presented that increased participants' insight into the digital world. Some of the materials presented included the importance of digital literacy, wise use of social media, the dangers of radicalism conveyed through social media, and digital knowledge about the business world.
