Breadfruit (malangkota.go.id) – Starting from the difficulty of finding work during the Covid-19 pandemic, residents of Kampung Nila Slilir Village, Bakalan Krajan Village, Malang City now have a profitable activity by cultivating tilapia. Agung Sugiantoro utilizes limited land for breeding and cultivating tilapia.

Agung Sugiantoro said that the establishment of Kampung Nila Slilir was inseparable from the Covid-19 pandemic. When residents did not work much outside the home, they finally gathered with their families to earn income.
"There are around eight households currently cultivating tilapia who are members of our group," explained Agung, Wednesday (16/6/2021).
Agung, who is also the head of the Krajan Slilir fish farming group, added that the system used for tilapia farming uses a biofloc system. Where with this system fish farmers can save water for cultivation, because they do not need to change the water.
"From the time the seeds are planted until they can be harvested, the system we have developed does not require water changes, so it is very water efficient," said Agung.
With this system, fish farmers can only rely on well water to meet their water needs. This is different from tilapia farming which is usually done in rivers, rice fields, or large cages.
"To create a current like in a river, because tilapia are fish that usually live in flowing water, we use an aerator," said Agung.
With this system, Agung said that since it was established in 2020 until now, the development of tilapia in Slilir has been quite good. No matter how much tilapia harvest can be cultivated in this place, it will immediately sell out.
"We are never confused about marketing, in fact, increasing the number of fish we raise is more difficult because our land is limited," said Agung.
To overcome limited land, Agung said the tilapia fish farming group in Slilir applies dense stocking for fish farming. Where a pond measuring 3 meters in diameter is usually filled with 1200 to 1.500 tilapia fish.
"If cultivated ordinary tilapia per meter is usually only filled with 20 fish. This is the difference in our cultivation compared to conventional tilapia cultivation," said Agung.
With the maintenance of dense distribution, Agung admitted, it also has a very big risk when suddenly the electricity from PLN goes out. For that, as a backup when at any time the PLN electricity goes out, his party has prepared a generator. (cah/ram)
