Klojen (Malang city) – As an effort to improve the culture of eating fish, the Malang City Food Security and Agriculture Service (Dispangtan) held a Socialization of the Movement to Popularize Eating Fish (Gemarikan) in the Mini Block Office hall of Malang City Hall, Wednesday (23/6/2021).

The Head of TP PKK Malang City as the Head of the Fish Consumption Improvement Forum (Forikan) Malang City Widayati Sutiaji, S. Sos., MM said that the socialization of Gemarikan is a means of introducing fish consumption from an early age. In addition, it is also a community movement to make fish a safe and healthy family menu. Because fish have good nutrition for consumption, so that a healthy, strong, and intelligent generation is created.
"This step requires a new strategy that involves all components of the nation, in order to be able to raise awareness among the Indonesian people to choose fish as the main source of protein in the family food menu," he explained.
As a food source, he said, fish has very good nutritional content, such as protein as a source of growth, omega 3 and 6 fatty acids which are beneficial for the health of the mother and fetus.
"It is a shared responsibility to provide rights for children. One of them is by providing balanced and sufficient nutritional intake so that they grow and develop into a healthy and intelligent golden generation to build the nation," he said.
Widayati gave the example of Japanese people who have an intelligence level that is above the average of people in other Asian countries with a good level of health, and a high passion for life. All of that is because the level of fish consumption in their society is very dominant.
Meanwhile, Acting Head of Malang City Agriculture and Food Security Agency Sri Winarni, SH., MM said that fulfilling nutritional needs, especially protein, is very important for children and toddlers to support their growth period.
"One of the high-protein food products is fish and other fishery products. In addition to high nutrition, there is also a content of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentanoic acid (EPA) in fish that can increase brain intelligence. So by consuming fish, a generation will be formed that has better intelligence and health," explained Sri Winarni.
By consuming fish, he said, the body's immunity can be maintained because fish is a food product that is rich in nutrients. "Where during this pandemic, the body's immunity is very important as a fortress of defense against the virus that is currently spreading," he said.
The Gemarikan socialization presented resource person Maryam Razak, S. TP., M. Si from Poltekkes Malang and the participants of the activity were the Principals of PAUD Post Schools throughout Malang City. (yon/ram)
