Accident on Soehat Bridge Not Due to PJU Blackout

Malang (malangkota.go.id) – Malang Mayor Drs. H. Sutiaji responded to news circulating through online media about an accident on the Soekarno-Hatta (Soehat) Bridge, Lowokwaru, Malang City, Tuesday (6/7/2021). In a statement written by the media, the victim named MPW (19), a resident of Jalan Jagalan II, Kedok Village, Turen District, Malang Regency, was not due to a blackout of public street lighting (PJU).

Mayor Sutiaji received a report that the accident on the Soehat Bridge was due to a slip due to high speed from the direction of Dinoyo. So, the accident that occurred on Monday (5/7/2021) early morning was not due to a PJU blackout. Because in the Soekarno-Hatta area, not all PJUs were turned off.

"Don't associate all accidents with PJU blackouts. The Malang City Government has warned which areas are prone to accidents and which are not. Roads that are prone to PJU will not be turned off. All have been surveyed first," added Mayor Sutiaji.

According to him, netizens sometimes exaggerate information obtained from the media, both social media and online media. Just mention what was written by one of the online media, said Sutiaji, there was no explanation that the accident was caused by a PJU blackout.

"The online media wrote the news title 'Motorcyclist from Turen Falls into Ravine at Suhat Bridge, Impact of PJU Blackout?' So there is a question mark there. This means that the accident could be due to a PJU blackout. Because the title has a question mark, but after reading the full news, the real answer is that the accident was not caused by a PJU blackout," said Sutiaji.

In this case, Mayor Sutiaji also appealed to smartphone users, not to just read the news headline, then conclude immediately. But as a smartphone user, read the contents of the news. So that the information obtained is complete and does not cause disinformation.

The Head of the Malang City Communication and Informatics Agency (Diskominfo) Muhammad Nur Widianto, S.Sos also said the same thing, that the online media did not conclude and confirm that the accident was due to the PJU blackout. This was reinforced by the news title containing a question mark (?). Where the answer to the question mark is in the news content, not in the title.

"Let's be wise in using social media, not to conclude something just from the news title. Let's click first, then read the full article," said Wiwid, Muhammad Nur Widianto's nickname.

Malang City Government, he said, appreciates the attention of Malang City residents who provide criticism and suggestions for existing policies. However, the pattern of unilateral interpretation and leading to opinion without further investigation is very unwise. This is reflected in the phrase 'And It Happened Again'. In fact, the previous viral accident case was a hoax.

Meanwhile, Head of Traffic Accidents Unit of Malang City Police, Iptu Syaiful Ilmi, quoted from Indonewsdaily, said that the initial chronology was that the Suzuki Smash motorbike rider came from the direction of Dinoyo towards Soekarno-Hatta at high speed.

"Well, when the road was turning, he slipped and finally fell. Until he fell into a ravine from the top of the Soehat Bridge," he said.

Asked whether the incident was the result of a PJU blackout during the Emergency PPKM period? Inspector Syaiful Ilmi answered that he couldn't be sure. "At the time of the incident, the lighting there was still bright, not all the lights were turned off," he concluded.

Meanwhile, the victim of the accident on the Soehat MPW Bridge said that the accident he experienced was not the fault of the Malang City Government. Because at that time, he admitted that there were still street lights.

"I emphasize that it was not the fault of the Malang City Government and at that time the street lighting was still there," said MPW firmly.

MPW wrote in the stamped statement letter that the accident he experienced was purely due to his own negligence and did not blame the Malang City Government for the policy of turning off the PJU during the Emergency PPKM. (ram)
