The Story of a Covid-19 Survivor's Recovery from Malang City

Malang (malangkota.go.id) – The Covid-19 pandemic has made the Indonesian nation suffer in various ways, including health and the economy. However, in the midst of difficult conditions, Malang City residents are willing to share and care for residents who are in self-isolation (isoman) due to being infected with Covid-19.

Malang City residents even set up a public kitchen to help meet the nutritional needs of residents who are self-isolating so they can recover quickly from Covid-19. In addition, various assistance has also been disbursed by the government and corporate social responsibility (CSR) of the private sector to help handle this pandemic.

According to the confession of a positive Covid-19 survivor, a resident of Bakalan Krajan Village, Harto Sutiyo, said that while undergoing isoman, he struggled by strengthening his immune system and faith. "Initially, my child was exposed to Covid-19, then my wife and I were also exposed. Finally, we underwent isoman," said Harto Sutiyo, Friday (23/7/2021).

During self-isolation, he said, he always took medicine from the doctor and herbal medicine from herbs or spices and honey. Harto Sutiyo tried to overcome shortness of breath and inability to smell by inhaling eucalyptus oil and wind oil. In addition, he also routinely sunbathes at 09.00-10.30 WIB.

During self-isolation, Harto Sutiyo always eats regularly and sufficiently. Even though he feels lazy to eat, he always forces himself so that food can enter his stomach. That way, immunity will increase. If immunity increases, then the healing process is getting closer. The mind should also not be too stressed, he appeals to always pray and think positively to recover.

"After undergoing isoman, Alhamdulillah, I am now fit and negative for Covid-19. May we all be given health, long life, and be protected from all diseases. Always pray to God, may God always protect us," he concluded.

Bandulan Village Secretary Mutho' Shobiri, S.STP, M. AP

Covid-19 survivor Secretary of Bandulan Village Mutho' Shobiri, S.STP, M. AP said that when he was exposed to Covid-19 and underwent treatment at the Malang City Regional General Hospital (RSUD), he increased his immune system by consuming vitamins and taking medication from the doctor.

"I implemented a healthy lifestyle and ate nutritious food. Although at that time my sense of taste and smell were gone, I also sunbathed in the morning," he said.

The positive message he wants to convey is for people who are currently fighting against Covid-19 to remain enthusiastic and optimistic. Mutho' Shobiri appealed to continue to comply with health protocols and always pray to God to continue to be given health and healing. After fighting against Covid-19, he has now been declared cured or negative for Covid-19 and has returned to his activities.

Erwin Mulyo, a resident of Dinoyo Subdistrict

The next Covid-19 survivor, a resident of Dinoyo Village, Erwin Mulyo shared his experience. According to Erwin, one of the medicines for Covid-19 is yourself. Because what really needs to be done is to maintain one's own spirit to fight against Covid-19. If there is a Covid-19 patient who starts to lose enthusiasm, then the other's job is to give encouragement. This means strengthening and encouraging each other.

"Stay enthusiastic and keep trying and praying to Allah SWT for healing and safety. For those who are being treated in the hospital, keep fighting and keep your spirits up to recover. Because one of the medicines for Covid-19 is from ourselves. Let's always implement health protocols," said Erwin Mulyo.

Erwin Mulyo added that the health workers who carry out their duties on the front lines during this pandemic also always provide encouragement. This is done to restore the condition of Covid-19 patients so that they recover quickly. "Keeping a positive mind is important in the process of recovering from Covid-19. Because thoughts will affect mental and psychological conditions, so that the increase or decrease in immunity depends on thoughts," he continued.

In terms of handling trauma healing for Covid-19 patients, the Malang City Forkopimda created the Malang Raya Trauma Healing Task Force (Sama Ramah) program which was inaugurated by the Mayor of Malang Drs. H. Sutiaji some time ago. In addition, the Malang City Government is moving quickly to distribute aid and accelerate vaccination.

Mayor Sutiaji also always provides encouragement by visiting residents who are self-isolating. He comes with assistance and provides motivation so that residents infected with Covid-19 will soon be healthy and negative from Covid-19. Sutiaji also appealed to residents who are self-isolating to always implement strict health protocols.

"This visit is one of the trauma healing efforts for Covid-19 sufferers. My personal experience while undergoing isoman has an emotional charge that enters the memory and can leave a psychological impact, especially if the experience is children," added Mayor Sutiaji.

Sutiaji also reviewed and provided trauma healing to children who were self-isolating without parents at the Puskopad Housing Complex, Buring Village, Kedungkandang District, Thursday (15/7/2021). "Come on, kids, cheer up! So you can get well soon," said Sutiaji.

Meanwhile, Sutiaji also gave positive appreciation for the community's concern and actions in helping isoman residents. Where residents are currently diligently providing ready-to-eat food assistance to isoman residents. "This arises and grows from the community itself, this is the high value of mutual cooperation. Indeed, during this Covid-19 period, mutual cooperation must be carried out," he concluded. (eka/ram)
