Mayor of Malang Drs. H. Sutiaji when presenting the potential, opportunities, obstacles, and challenges of tourism and creative economy in Malang City at the virtual Ngopi Ker (Inspirational Chat) event

Sandiaga Uno appreciates Malang as a creative city because its people are very creative. Malang is also one of the pioneers for films using regional languages that are popular and sell well abroad.

"Like the film Bayu Skak, which reached one million viewers, even though 90 percent of it uses East Javanese. Maybe that, I think, is also an extraordinary asset," said Sandiaga Uno.

The ecosystem that has gathered will certainly support and encourage the creative economy (ekraf) of Malang City such as animation, games, and films. Of course, other creative economy sectors will also be able to grow in Malang City. Sandiaga Uno said that he did not want only big cities like Jakarta whose creative economy was developing. But it must be in all regions in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Malang, Drs. H. Sutiaji, conveyed the potential, opportunities, obstacles, and challenges of tourism and creative economy in Malang City in front of the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno. Sutiaji said that Malang City has very high potential considering that 50,65 percent of its population is millennials and generation Z and there are more than 100 startups.

The Malang City Government (Pemkot) has captured this potential so that it is reflected in the second mission formulated in the 2018-2023 Regional Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMD).

"The mission is to realize a productive and competitive city based on a creative economy, sustainability and integration and to be part of the spirit of The Future of Malang, namely Malang Creative and Malang 4.0," said Sam Sutiaji, the nickname of the Mayor of Malang.

Sam Sutiaji conveyed to more than 200 participants from various tourism and creative economy industry players, the Malang City Government is committed to developing the tourism and creative economy ecosystem. This can be seen from the preparation of the Malang City creative economy roadmap in the Malang Mayor Regulation Number 12 of 2018.

"With the sharpening of the film, video, and animation subsectors and culinary as leading subsectors. While the game and application subsectors are priority subsectors," he continued.

There are three targets set to achieve this, including 2018-2019 Malang Bersinergi (one data for the game and application industry), 2020-2021 Malang Berdaya (strengthening human resources or industry-based HR, such as certification and quality products), 2022-2023 Malang Mendunia (interest of global corporations to invest in Malang).

"Currently, Malang City is in the second stage, namely Malang Berdaya in strengthening human resources and product certification. The three program focuses, infrastructure provision, ecosystem development, and marketing improvement are still being implemented even in the midst of a pandemic," added the Mayor of Malang.

This can be seen from the consistency of the Malang City Government in processing the construction of the Malang Creative Center (MCC). Malang City is a center of production house in digital technology, because it has human resource capital, superstructure and a community that strongly supports digital-based creative economy.

"I hope that through this Ngopi event, the hexahelix concept can be realized in the form of central government collaboration related to funding, mentoring, and marketing of the tourism industry, and creative economy. So that it can strengthen, even improve the position of Malang City as 1 of 4 creative regencies/cities of creative economy," he concluded.

At this event, Menparekraf Sandiaga Uno was also asked to attend the Malang Flower Festival which will be held this year. (cah/ram)
