Former Boxer from Malang Successfully Breeds Rats

Malang (malangkota.go.id) – Since 13 years ago, Suwaji, who is a boxer and has achieved national level achievements, decided to hang up his boxing gloves. The resident of Jalan Sudimoro, Lowokwaru District, Malang City, cut corners and chose to breed white mice.

Suwaji, who never gave up when his rat farming business was hit by various trials

At that time he saw a big opportunity for this business, where at that time many medical students and doctors had difficulty getting white mice to be used as research objects. Initially Suwaji bred two female white mice and two male mice which then reproduced.

As time went by, the 55-year-old man added to his pet species, namely mice and house rats. Although they had started to increase in number, Suwaji still had difficulty in getting a market. Until one day he joined a reptile lover community which eventually got a wide market.

These are some of the things he said on Monday (16/8/2021). Suwaji's rats are priced from IDR 3.000 to IDR 17.500 and he had kept up to 7.500 rats. When the market started to open, he admitted that he was sick and two workers who helped him had to go home.

So many rats died due to lack of care. After recovering, Suwaji did not give up and rose again even though currently the rats and cages are only 25 percent of what they used to be. "Slowly my rat farm began to return to normal and many customers were interested," he said.

Currently, Suwaji serves the needs of rats for a number of universities and reptile lovers to several areas in East Java, such as Surabaya, Sidoarjo and Jember, which reaches 500 per day. In addition, various animal conservation places and tourist attractions that also present various animals in Batu City each need at least 700 rats supplied by Suwaji every week. (say/ram)
