Malang, (malangkota.go.id) – The existence of healthy, happy, and prosperous elderly people who carry out their activities well is a priority for the Malang City Government. This was emphasized by the Mayor of Malang Drs. H. Sutiaji in the coaching of the elderly and gymnastics with the Abiyoso Grontologi Foundation at the Kartini Building, Malang City, Sunday (3/10/2021).

Mayor Sutiaji greatly appreciates what the elderly in Malang City have done, where so far with various activities driven by Prof. Djanggan Sargowo. He hopes that conditions like this can continue to be maintained by the elderly in Malang City so that they can remain productive, happy, and prosperous.
"I would like to express my gratitude for the role of the elderly so far, including during the Covid-19 pandemic. The discipline of all elderly people in Malang City in taking care of themselves and obeying health protocols has meant that not many elderly people in Malang City have been exposed to Covid-19," explained Sutiaji.
Of the 83.153 elderly in Malang City, Sutiaji said that only zero point something percent were exposed to Covid-19 and most of them could be cured. This is a good sign that life expectancy in Malang City can be even higher. "The large number of elderly in Malang City is proof that life expectancy in this city is getting higher," said Sutiaji.

To help the elderly in Malang City to be able to do activities well, the Malang City Government has and will build more facilities and infrastructure that are friendly to the elderly. Where Malang City will build parks in each sub-district equipped with facilities for the elderly.
"We are currently preparing the construction of Kedungkandang Square, where this square will also be equipped with a place for the elderly," said Sutiaji.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Abiyoso Malang Gerontology Foundation, Djanggan Sargowo, thanked the Mayor of Malang for attending this activity. The presence of the mayor is a motivation for the elderly to remain productive, healthy, and happy. "We want to foster the elderly in Malang City, we also thank the mayor for providing a large amount of funds for elderly activities," said Djanggan.

Djanggan said, currently the number of elderly in Malang City also continues to increase and become a national barometer. Increasing elderly resources in Malang City must continue to be improved so that the elderly can be healthier, happier, prosperous, and remain independent. (cah/ram)
