Malang, MC – In the last few days, Malang City has been hit by rain with quite high intensity, causing puddles in several places, including on the streets and residential areas. One of the triggers is because of blockages in the water channels and causing rainwater to overflow.

In this regard, under the coordination of the Public Works, Spatial Planning, Housing and Residential Areas Agency (DPUPRPKP) of Malang City, the Garbage and Sediment Lifting Movement (GASS) in the Gadingkasri Village area has again intensified, Sunday (31/10/2021).
In the mass community service with a number of community elements to lift garbage and sediment in the river, also attended by the Deputy Mayor of Malang Ir. H. Sofyan Edi Jarwoko. One unit of heavy equipment in the form of an excavator was also deployed. According to the bespectacled man, the Gadingkasri Sub-district area is an area that has many water puddles when it rains.
Therefore, explained Bung Edi, Sofyan Edi Jarwoko's nickname, based on the awareness and desire of the residents, they decided to hold this community service. "From the results of cleaning this river, at least 17 m3 of garbage and sediment have been lifted. As a result, the water level has dropped to around 50 cm. We hope that later there will be no more overflows from this river when it rains," he continued.
This GASS, he said, will be carried out continuously every Sunday and will target other river flows. Thus, efforts to suppress the triggers of flooding can be optimal. "We appeal to residents to no longer throw away garbage, chunks of buildings or anything that can clog water channels," said Bung Edi.
The friendly man also said that when a flood occurs, the community will also feel the impact. Therefore, this water channel is guarded together and do not build buildings that violate the rules. "If there are buildings that interfere with the flow of the river or on the riverbank, then they will be put in order/will be demolished," said Bung Edi firmly.
At this monen, there was also a planting of pule trees on the banks of the river. He said that trees are very important to keep oxygen levels healthy. "In addition, trees can also suppress landslides and floods and maintain the natural ecosystem. When it's the rainy season and it's the right time to plant anything," concluded Bung Edi.
Meanwhile, Head of RW 03 Gadingkasri Village Ahmad Muam said that all elements in Gadingkasri participated in the mutual cooperation to clean the river flow. In addition, it was also attended by the Sumbersari Village because the river flow also passes through the area.
"Everyone came together in harmony in this community service. Therefore, we hope that the river flow along Jalan Galunggung, Sutami Dam, ITN, to the Dieng intersection will be made a long-term program of the Malang City Government," said Ahmad Muam.
He asked not to be made partial per RW or per sub-district, but must be united because the river flow is one river flow. According to him, if the upper one has been fixed, then the lower one must also be fixed, it cannot be just one. The next community service plan will be carried out in RW 01 and to other RWs.
