Malang, (malangkota.go.id) – The Malang City Government (Pemkot) held a Social Media Management Training at the Savana Hotel, Tuesday (23/11/2021). The purpose of this training is because the development of digital technology has influenced changes in people's communication patterns and is able to create a new medium for massive information.

"Social media should not make us anti-social, but how can we use social media as a useful platform," said the Head of the Malang City Communication and Informatics Service, Muhammad Nur Widianto, S.Sos.
Social media, he said, is a new media that uses the internet, as part of the results of the development of technological progress, this shifts the lifestyle patterns of society which are now shifting to all digital including in consuming information. The very rapid flow of information through social media has made society now enter the era of the information society.
"Social media has many benefits, for example as a place to promote a business, a place to communicate, get to know places in various parts of the world, hone language skills, a means of developing social skills, a place to disseminate information, a vehicle for developing science and culture, technology, and a source to improve the image of an individual or group," said the man who once served as Head of Public Relations of the Malang City Regional Secretariat.
However, said the friendly man, it cannot be denied that negative impacts also appear on social media. For example, hate speech (hate speech), fake news (hoax) or false information. Therefore, he asked the public as recipients of information and social media users not to swallow the information they get whole.
"It's best not to spread news that is not necessarily true. Make sure the information received is from a trusted and valid source. Do an analysis first, don't spread it straight away," he asked.
Ethics and character in communication must always be prioritized. This is to produce new media that is communicative and full of meaning for life. A person's ability to communicate in social media must demonstrate ethics and uphold the value of a person's privacy.
"This training is part of supporting the realization of the vision of Malang City with Dignity. Hopefully it can make the community more literate and adaptive to the dynamics of information technology, so that it becomes part of the desired smart city," he continued.
Meanwhile, the Assistant for Government and Public Welfare of Malang City Drs. Mulyono, M.Si said that this social media management training is important. In addition to increasing skills in managing social media, it is also to increase public literacy so that they are not easily influenced by hoax information.
"It is very important to understand and be wise in using social media, so that no Malang City residents are caught in Law Number 11 of 2008 concerning Information and Electronic Transactions," said Mulyono.
Mulyono hopes that social media can be used well so that it is useful in everyday life. Not spreading hate speech, hoaxes, and misleading information. For example, the existence of content containing radicalism and terrorism. (ram)
