Malang City Hospital Moves Quickly to Handle Residents' Health Problems

Malang, (malangkota.go.id) – In order to provide the best service to the community, Malang City Hospital continues to improve. Especially in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic which has not ended until now. Facilities that must be prepared, such as service flow, personal protective equipment (PPE), officer compliance, and service rooms.

Director of Malang City Hospital, dr. Rina Istarowati, said that during the Covid-19 pandemic, the hospital prepared itself well. Because the hospital is part of the Malang City Government (Pemkot) which provides comprehensive individual and referral health services. The Malang City Hospital is also a place for education for prospective health workers.

"Now we have our own Covid-19 polyclinic, with a lung specialist in charge. For the IGD, there is an addition of beds (TT), from three TT in the IGD after the Covid-19 spike to 10 TT," said Rina.

Likewise with the isolation inpatient room. Initially, the isolation room at Malang City Hospital was only a few. Currently, two floors have been used as isolation rooms, so the total number of beds for inpatient care is 49 TT.

Rina added, when the Covid-19 spike occurred, July-August 2021, the isolation room of Malang City Hospital was full. Both the ER and the isolation room eventually had to refer patients outside Malang City.

"Our health workers were also exposed at almost the same time. Therefore, we merged several units, for efficiency of personnel. With the limited personnel, we serve not only in the RSUD itself. However, some personnel also serve patients at the Safe House Kawi," said Rina.

This type C hospital continues to strive to provide complete services for the people of Malang City. Various efforts have been made, including adding services in the polyclinic, especially the medical rehabilitation polyclinic and the skin and venereal disease polyclinic.

"We just launched a phototherapy service. Phototherapy or light therapy is a skin care procedure that involves the use of ultraviolet (UV) light that functions in treating certain medical conditions such as vitiligo. Our skin clinic also provides chemical peels," said Rina.

In addition, he said, Malang City Hospital also has quite complete medical rehabilitation services, including occupational therapy and sensory integration.

Talking about the Bed Occupancy Ratio (BOR), Rina said, as of today, Tuesday (28/12/2021), the BOR of Malang City Hospital is around 18. Meanwhile, the highest number of visits to the polyclinic are the lung polyclinic, internal medicine polyclinic, and adult dental polyclinic.

"For inpatients, the majority are patients treated by internal medicine specialists. The most common illness is fever, which leads to infectious diseases," he continued.

Since the Covid-19 cases have declined, he said, the diseases experienced have shifted to children's cases. In fact, many children and infant patients are referred from other hospitals to Malang City Hospital. Because the health services for children at Malang City Hospital are quite good.

The hospital, which stands on an area of ​​4847.5 m2, has started its operations since 2015 and carried out its accreditation in 2017. Currently, the hospital, which is located at Jalan Rajasa Number 27, Bumiayu, Malang City, has 20 general practitioners and 18 specialist doctors.

"There are 102 nursing staff consisting of nurses and dental nurses, and there are 27 midwives who are also ready to provide health services to the community," he concluded. (ari/ram)
