Malang Mayor Drs. H. Sutiaji said that the revitalization of the traders' stalls is part of an ongoing effort to strengthen the competitiveness of the people's market. He emphasized that market improvements will continue to be carried out amid the Covid-19 pandemic which has an impact on economic contraction and local revenue (PAD).

"This is very important to maintain the momentum of the growth of the people's economy in Malang City. Of course, we will fix it gradually and continue to communicate in the process. We want our markets to be comfortable for both traders and buyers," said Sutiaji.

Madyopuro Market is the 13th traditional market that has been touched by the revitalization program. The revitalization work of the market, which has a total area of 81.624 square meters, includes the construction and replacement of the roof, raising the floor, and making stall tables for traders.

Meanwhile, Head of Diskopindag Malang City Muhammad Sailendra, ST., MM said, all work was done to handle the physical problems of the market. Especially in the area of the traders' stalls whose roofs have leaked a lot, existing tables are damaged, clogged drains and muddy floors because the initial height was below the water channel.

"A total of 360 new, sturdy and clean stall tables have been built and have now benefited 269 stall traders at Madyopuro Market," he said.

The completion of the stall renovation certainly brings a sense of comfort for traders and buyers considering that the stall area is no longer flooded and air circulation is more comfortable. The revitalization process went smoothly and confirmed that further improvements are still needed.

"Especially for kiosk and powder traders, in the future we will study the need for arrangement," concluded Sailendra. (ndu/ram)
