Malang, (malangkota.go.id) – The Malang City Government (Pemkot) through the Population and Civil Registration Service (Dispendukcapil) has made a new innovation, namely issuing population documents in Braille.

Head of Dispendukcapil Malang City Dra. Eny Hari Sutiarny, MM said this innovation is to realize Malang City as a disability-friendly city. In addition, through this innovation, Malang City residents with special needs, especially the blind, can read their population documents independently.
"Since 2019 we have been making population documents in Braille. This is the first in East Java. An innovation of the Malang City Population and Civil Registry Office for people with visual impairments so they can read their population documents," said Eny Hari Sutiarny.
According to him, blind people will receive two population documents, one original document and one additional document in Braille.

Head of Population Administration Information Management (PIAK) and Data Utilization of Malang City Population and Civil Registry Office Drs. Sudarmanto, MM said, in making population documents in Braille, Malang City Population and Civil Registry Office collaborated with the East Java Provincial Social Service through the UPT for Social Rehabilitation of the Visually Impaired located in Malang.
"If there are population documents belonging to visually impaired people, we will copy them and send them there to be converted into Braille," said Sudarmanto.
Sudarmanto said that documents in braille are additional documents that are only a reference for people with visual impairments. Thus, of course, all administrative processing needs still use the original population documents. The procedure for making population documents in braille is very easy.
"Applicants bring their KTP, KIA, KK, or other population documents to the Dispendukcapil counter or through our officers in their respective sub-districts. No cover letter or anything is needed. Just photocopy it, we will process it later. For those who do not have documents, they can submit an application as usual and we will automatically make the braille ones too," he said.
The Malang City Population and Civil Registry Office has conducted various socializations so that more and more people with visual impairments can benefit from this innovation. In fact, this innovation has been welcomed by the community. At the beginning of this year, there have been eight applicants who want to translate their population documents into Braille.
Meanwhile, Malang Mayor Drs. H. Sutiaji said that this innovation is a real manifestation of the government's support for all groups in society. This innovation is in line with the third mission of the Malang City Government, namely to create a harmonious and tolerant city based on diversity and support for vulnerable communities and gender.
"Malang City Government always tries to provide the best service for all Malang City residents. Without looking at their status and physical appearance. All Malang City residents must receive good service," he concluded. (ari/ram)
