The Malang City Government through the Health Office has prepared around 70 thousand doses of vaccine. In accordance with government policy, currently the provision of booster vaccines is prioritized for the elderly (lansia) and immunocompromised people for the elderly and other vulnerable communities.

Acting Head of Surveillance and Immunization Section of Malang City Health Office drg. Muhammad Zamroni said, booster vaccines will be given to the public starting next week. Currently, the Health Office has prepared to provide vaccines to Malang City residents.

"We launched it yesterday, and it will be implemented in all designated health facilities. Starting Tuesday, January 18, 2022, and prioritized for the elderly and vulnerable communities. Actually, the type of booster vaccine is still lacking, such as Moderna. Because currently the Health Office only has two types, namely Astrazeneca and Pfizer. The rest are waiting for distribution from the East Java Provincial Health Office," he explained when contacted online, Friday (14/1/2022).

Muhammad Zamroni added that in Malang City there are several locations for booster vaccination services. "There are health facilities owned by the Police, TNI, Malang City Government, and private companies that are prepared to serve vaccinations in Malang City. Two locations belong to the Police, three locations belong to the TNI, 16 health centers, Malang City Hospital, RSSA, 23 private hospitals, and 42 private clinics," he explained.

To find out the vaccination schedule, Malang City residents can check the PeduliLindungi website and application. In addition, health facilities will inform the vaccine targets because efforts will be made to receive the booster vaccine at the same health facility as receiving the primary vaccine (first and second doses).

Meanwhile, Malang Mayor Drs. H. Sutiaji appealed to the public not to worry about this booster vaccine. "This vaccine is safe, beneficial and halal. Therefore, the public does not need to worry, because scientifically there has never been an incident due to the vaccine causing health impacts," appealed the number one person in the Malang City Government.

Please note, the government has issued Circular Letter (SE) Number HK.02.02/II/252/2022 concerning the COVID-19 Follow-up Dose (Booster) Vaccination on January 12, 2022. This booster vaccine aims to maintain the level of immunity, as well as extend the period of protection. The booster vaccine is only given to those who have received a complete dose of primary vaccination. (ari/ram)
