Minister of Home Affairs and KPK Chairman Invite Regional Heads to Avoid Corruption

Klojen, (malangkota.go.id) – Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian invited regional heads in Indonesia to avoid acts of corruption, collusion, and nepotism (KKN). This was emphasized because in early 2022, three regional heads were caught in a sting operation (OTT) by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

This statement was conveyed by Muhammad Tito Karnavian at a virtual Working Meeting of the Ministry of Home Affairs with Regional Governments in Indonesia, Monday (24/1/2022).

Tito Karnavian said that the OTT against several regional heads who were caught in legal problems by the KPK reminded that criminal acts of corruption must be eradicated continuously. Because criminal acts of corruption will have a great impact on public trust in the government.

"Corruption must be avoided, a clean government will improve the welfare of state civil servants (ASN) and the community," explained Muhammad Tito Karnavian.

Muhammad Tito Karnavian added that corruption is caused by many things. Among them are political costs, ASN recruitment with rewards, integrity, and culture. According to him, corruption has become a culture that must be cut from top to bottom. For example, by not ordering to receive and ask for rewards in terms of service.

"At the beginning of this year, we must commit all regional heads not to engage in corruption," said Tito.

KPK Chairman Firli Bahuri said that the KPK has so far arrested regional heads in OTT not just like that. But through a long process and observation. For that, his party again invited all regional heads to work together to realize the country's goals.

"I want regional heads to support each other in efforts to realize the country's goals. There should be no more regional heads who are not on the same page. For example, between regents and governors," Firli stressed.

Firli also conveyed the state's goals, namely to ensure political stability and security, ensure public safety from all kinds of disasters, grow the economy, ensure certainty and ease of investment, business licensing, and ensure the sustainability of national development programs.

According to the survey, said Firli, several regional heads were caught in corruption cases because the regional head election costs came from sponsors who were caught in corruption cases.

"This is the reality that occurs, no matter how small the nominal we get will be enough to meet the needs of life. But no matter how much we get, it will not be enough to meet the lifestyle," said Firli.

Meanwhile, Malang Mayor Drs. H. Sutiaji said that his party strongly supports the steps of the Minister of Home Affairs and the Corruption Eradication Committee in eradicating corruption. According to him, as a leader in the region, he must set a good example for his people.

"In fact, Islam has its own criteria in choosing a leader. One model that can be used as an example with all its advantages is the Prophet Muhammad SAW. Because he led with his heart and can be used as a role model for his people until the end of time," said Sutiaji.

There are four criteria for a leader in Islam, the first is siddiq or honest. Perhaps this aspect is the most sought after by the public because currently many officials are caught in corruption cases, causing misery to the public.

"In addition, there is a mandate which means being responsible, not only to the people but also to Allah SWT," he continued.

The third is fatonah, which is smart. Smart does not only deal with intellectual issues, but also reliable and tactical in dealing with problems. "Finally there is tabligh which is said to be honest, responsible, and transparent communication," he concluded. (cah/ram)
