Malang City Appreciates Program to Overcome Cooking Oil Scarcity

Malang, (malangkota.go.id) – To maintain purchasing power, consumption levels and help the community amidst the scarcity of cooking oil on the market, for the umpteenth time the East Java Provincial Government held a bazaar. This time the bazaar was held in the yard of the UPT Office of the Regional Revenue Agency (Bapenda) of East Java Province located in the Samsat Office area on Jalan Sudanco Supriyadi, Malang City, Saturday (5/2/2022).

Malang Regional Secretary Erik Setyo Santoso, ST., MT was appointed by the Governor of East Java Khofifah Indar Parawansa to hand over productive zakat assistance to ultra micro business actors (UMi)

East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa said that cooking oil is sold for Rp12.500,00 per liter and residents who buy using coupons and ID cards each buy 2 liters. At this moment, the woman in the hijab also handed over assistance to 50 ultra micro business actors (UMi), such as fried food, pecel rice, and vegetable sellers who received productive zakat assistance for business capital.

In this program, each UMi actor receives basic food assistance and business capital of Rp500 thousand each. From this effort, the former Minister of Social Affairs hopes to be able to help residents, especially business actors who are affected when cooking oil is scarce on the market which is triggered by the soaring price since last January. However, Khofifah appealed to the public not to carry out hoarding or panic buying because the government will continue to find a way out.

"The need for cooking oil in East Java every month is 59 thousand tons and the production volume is 62 thousand tons. If we look at these conditions, there should be no shortage and the supply is smooth. So far, from the results of monitoring and what is still a shared homework is the stagnation at several points in the market chain. We invite the regents/mayors to help solve this problem," added Khofifah.

Regarding this, Malang Regional Secretary Erik Setyo Santoso, ST., MT said he was ready and would fully assist the East Java Provincial Government's program. "We do not deny that in Malang City there is still a shortage of cooking oil," he explained.

Likewise, the assistance program in the form of productive zakat, said Regional Secretary Erik, will greatly help UMi actors. So that it will revive the business that has been stalled so far. "I think the distribution of this assistance is right on target and right on time, and indeed these groups are worthy of assistance," he said. (say/ram)
