Malang, (malangkota.go.id) – The Malang City Government (Pemkot) received a working visit from the Sidoarjo Regency Government (Pemkab) at Malang City Hall, Tuesday (8/2/2022). This visit was conducted to learn about the revitalization of traditional markets.

Malang Mayor Drs. H. Sutiaji welcomed the desire of the Sidoarjo Regency Government to learn about the management of traditional markets in Malang City. "The revitalization of traditional markets aims to improve traditional markets so that they can continue to compete with modern markets. Until 2021, the number of traditional markets that have been revitalized is 14 out of a total of 26 traditional markets in Malang City," he said.
Furthermore, Sutiaji stated that physical revitalization alone is not enough. Filtering power must also be increased by improving non-physical aspects. Malang City has had several innovations such as the Smart Trader Market School (Sepasar Pedas), e-retribution, digital market pilots, and also the sobo market movement. Even Sepasar Pedas entered the Top 45 Public Service Innovation Competition (KIPP) in 2020.
Sutiaji said that Sepasar Pedas has had a positive impact, such as significant changes in the mindset and behavior of traditional market traders. Thus, the satisfaction of traders and market customers has also increased.
"For e-retribution, it aims to increase local revenue (PAD), it has been running in 22 traditional markets. Then there is a pilot project of 10 traditional markets that are already digital, with non-cash payments. We also invite state civil servants (ASN) to shop at traditional markets which we call the sobo market movement," he explained.
Meanwhile, Sidoarjo Regent H. Ahmad Muhdlor Ali, SIP expressed his gratitude for the welcome of Malang City, especially for the openness to share experiences related to market management. "Thank you for allowing us to upgrade ourselves to change Sidoarjo for the better. Being good is mandatory. Thank you for being invited to learn," said the regent.
Mudhlor further revealed that of the 19 traditional markets in Sidoarjo Regency, almost all of them are not yet organized. "Later there will be many improvements in Sidoarjo Regency, including one in the market sector which is our reference for strengthening the micro economy," he continued.
The young regent also appreciated the breakthroughs made by the Malang City Government, which not only improved the market physically. But also improved its human resources.
"The market there is still running as it is, yes there is still mud and so on. This is what we will fix in the next few years. Replicating what was conveyed if it was only the physical is actually easy. But building people is also important, awareness is important, public service is important, so that people do not get bored of shopping," said Regent Mudhlor.
On this occasion, the Mayor of Malang accompanied by the Head of the Cooperatives, Industry and Trade Service (Diskopindag) Muhamad Sailendra, ST., MM invited the Regent of Sidoarjo and his entourage to review the Oro-Oro Dowo Market. (ari/ram)
