"MCC is an investment for the nation's golden generation. This is not just a physical building, but more than that, MCC will be our big home, where we build a culture of collaboration to accelerate progress," explained Sutiaji.

Mayor Sutiaji, a badminton enthusiast, added that MCC is part of an integrated infrastructure whose construction is maintained amidst the pressure of the pandemic. Because the eight floors of the building that will be completed in 2022 are designed, it is believed to be able to provide high and sustainable benefits as a creative hub for hundreds or even thousands of potential young generations.

"Malang City is an agglomeration center, a center for trade in services that has been greatly restricted during the pandemic. But God willing, it has succeeded in overcoming the depth of the economic contraction through various policy packages and economic stimulus in the regions. Malang City only experienced a contraction of -2,26%, lower than Surabaya City -4,85%," explained Sutiaji.

In addition to economic growth, Sutiaji also presented a number of other comparative empirical evidence that presents optimism for regional economic recovery. Among them, the open unemployment rate (TPT) of Malang City, which had been suppressed to 5,88% before the pandemic, increased quite high at 9,65% in 2021. Likewise, comparatively, the TPT ranking of Malang City in East Java Province fell from the first highest to the third.

Meanwhile, the poverty rate in Malang City in 2021 was recorded at 4,62% and the human development index (HDI) was 82,04, while the Gini ratio in Malang City was at 0,395%.

"I hope that the condition will continue to improve even though we are still in the midst of a pandemic situation, with the help and support of all sectors in Malang City. I am sure that the economy of Malang City will continue to rise," said Sutiaji.

In 2021, Malang City has successfully achieved the second best predicate in the city category for the Best PPD Regency/City Level of East Java Province. PPD is an annual activity of the Ministry of National Development Planning/National Development Planning Agency (PPN/Bappenas) through the Deputy for Monitoring, Evaluation and Control of Development.
