Malang, (malangkota.go.id) – Empowerment and protection of women is one of the concentrations and priority programs of Malang City. How to fulfill women's rights and obligations and prevent violence against women, so that the status and dignity of women are the same as men.
Therefore, various efforts have been made by the Malang City Government (Pemkot) in strengthening women's empowerment, gender mainstreaming, and avoiding victims of violence. In this context, togetherness and synergy are needed from a number of related parties, especially elements of society that are indeed focused on women.
These were some of the things conveyed by the Mayor of Malang, Drs. H. Sutiaji after opening and becoming a resource person in the Thematic Women's Development Planning Meeting (Musrenbang) at the Atria Hotel, Thursday (17/2/2022). In this event, the bespectacled man delivered material on the theme 'Building Gender Equality and Social Inclusion.'
Furthermore, the number one person in the Malang City Government said that until now gender mainstreaming in Malang City has been quite good. Cases of violence against women and children have decreased significantly. In 2017 there were 67 cases, in 2018 it dropped to 65, in 2019 it dropped again to 55 cases, and in 2020 it was at 51 cases.
In the future, said Mayor Sutiaji, his party will continue to strengthen cooperation with parties, especially communities that concentrate on caring for women. Because from the synergy so far there has been a positive value or progress after an evaluation of this problem was conducted.
"No less important, there must be an evaluation and inventory of existing problems. Because the problems are dynamic or can change at any time. The working groups at the RT and RW levels in this case must be strengthened again in relation to women, and women's rights are well protected. Don't let it happen that if there are women who become victims of violence and report to the authorities, they actually become victims," said Sutiaji. (say/ram)
