Not Only Adults, Children Also Determine the Direction of Malang City Development

Malang, MC – The Malang City Government (Pemkot) through the Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda) held a Thematic Children's Development Planning Meeting (Musrenbang) for the 2023 Regional Government Work Plan (RKPD) at the Savana Hotel, Friday (18/2/2022). This was done to strengthen the fulfillment of children's rights and protection amidst the flow of global disruption.

Malang Mayor Drs. H. Sutiaji emphasized to strengthen the commitment so that there is no violence and bullying for children in Malang City. He invited to awaken the spirit of all children, that there should be no violence, both verbal and physical violence against children. Malang City Government is committed to realizing a Child-Friendly City through inclusive development policies.

"Where the fulfillment of children's rights and special protection of children are an inseparable part of achieving the vision and mission of development. This is included in mission number three, namely realizing a harmonious and tolerant city, based on togetherness and siding with vulnerable communities and gender. Our commitment is that Malang City starts all of this. Our children are the pearls of us all," explained Sutiaji.

Child protection is also part of the fifth priority program in the third national program of the 2020-2024 RPJMD. Where the policy direction is to improve the quality of children, women and youth.

Based on the Regulation of the Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Number 12 of 2011, there are five clusters of children's rights, namely civil rights and freedoms, family environment and alternative care, health and welfare, education and use of free time and cultural activities, and special protection.

"There are two major disruptions currently being faced, namely digitalization and the pandemic. Where of course there are several negative impacts of digitalization such as the proliferation of hoaxes, cyberbullying, digital crime and others. Being wise in digital is very necessary, so you have to be wise in using social media," said Sutiaji.

The hope is that Malang City can be realized as a Child-Friendly City, not only in terms of administration but also its implementation. The commitment is realized starting from strengthening regulations in Malang City, so that children's rights are properly fulfilled. In addition, pentahelix synergy is strengthened, institutions are synergized and budgets are aligned.

"There are innovations in reporting violence against women and children, increasing the fulfillment of children's rights in Malang City through various efforts such as improving administrative services for children, strengthening literacy through reading corners, adding green open spaces for children and others," explained Sutiaji.

The total number of proposals for the Thematic Children's Musrenbang for the preparation of the 2023 Malang City RKPD in 2023 is 18 proposals. The proposals include communication and education about children, training for children on information technology, disasters, strengthening children to become pioneers and reporters related to child protection, and reading parks.

"Through this Musrenbang, our younger siblings can be introduced to the processes of how we design the Malang City. From as early as possible, children can have an understanding because indirectly when participating in the Children's Thematic Musrenbang, all my children can have a say in how to make policies in the government known," said Sutiaji.

He added that the government also continues to innovate that all policies can target all levels of society including age groups, from children to adults. (yul/ram)
