Malang Mayor Drs. H. Sutiaji revealed that out of 26 traditional markets in Malang City, up until 2021, 14 markets had been revitalized. According to him, physical revitalization alone is not enough. However, there must be competitiveness that also needs to be increased by improving non-physical aspects.

"We have an innovation called Sepasar Pedas or Smart Trader Market School. This program has had a tremendous impact. There is a change in mindset regarding people's markets for both traders and the community," he said.

Mayor Sutiaji also mentioned that the Malang City Government has gradually implemented e-retribution which has the potential to increase local revenue (PAD). The Malang City Government invites state civil servants (ASN) to promote the Sobo Pasar Movement, which is shopping at traditional markets.

According to Sutiaji, the people's market in Malang City continues to be strengthened from various aspects. Not without reason, the number one person in the Malang City Government mentioned several reasons. "In the people's market there is a value of friendship. In addition, through the improvement of the people's market, it is hoped that it can stem the dominance of modern retail that has been abundant. This is our homework (PR)," he said.

Meanwhile, Jombang Regent Hj. Mundjidah Wahab gave appreciation for the efforts of the Malang City Government in terms of market revitalization which was considered good. The purpose of Jombang to Malang City was to learn about market revitalization.
"In the future, we want to rehabilitate or build a modern, clean traditional market. So that this market can be used for tourism or shopping. Currently, there is no representative market," he said.

Furthermore, Mundjidah stated that she agreed with the statement that the mindset about the market must be changed, not just physically. "Thank you for the explanation from the mayor. Hopefully we can emulate the markets here. Hopefully the knowledge gained today can be applied in Jombang," she concluded.

This working visit was continued with a field study by visiting Oro-Oro Dowo Market, Klojen District, Malang City. During this market visit, the Regent of Jombang and his entourage were accompanied by the Head of the Cooperatives, Industry and Trade Service of Malang City, Muhamad Sailendra, ST., MM. (ari/ram)
