Imam Wahyudi, one of the administrators said that residents exchanged inorganic waste such as paper, used bottles, used cooking oil for basic necessities (rice, sugar, and cooking oil).
"The activity of exchanging waste for basic necessities is an effort to reduce the volume of waste and help the community. The goal is for the community to be able to independently manage organic and inorganic waste. So that the burden on TPS or TPA is reduced," said Imam, Sunday (6/3/2022).
For the mechanism and terms and conditions, residents register directly as customers at Bank Sampah Delima. Waste must have been sorted from home. The criteria for waste accepted are cardboard, paper, newspapers, mineral water bottles.
"The recording system is with points. On average, people still save the results of waste deposits into customer account books. The results of the waste deposits will be exchanged for basic necessities when the month of Ramadan approaches," he explained.
If the points are sufficient, they can be exchanged for basic necessities. If the points are not sufficient or there is excess, it will become a balance recorded in the customer's savings book. The amount of points varies, 0,5 kg of packaged rice can be exchanged for 500 points. While 0,5 kg of granulated sugar can be exchanged for 925 points, and 500 ml of cooking oil is equivalent to 500 points.
"Regarding the public's enthusiasm, the community is quite enthusiastic. In this pre-launching stage, there are around 50 residents who registered as customers. Hopefully, this activity can continue and can be developed," he concluded.
Inorganic waste is processed into recycled crafts and organic waste can be managed for maggot cultivation, urban farming, and so on. So that it can open up employment opportunities and in the future the customer book recording process will be carried out with an Android application. (eka/ram)
