Mayor Sutiaji Invites OJK to Strengthen Public Financial Literacy

Malang, (malangkota.go.id) – The Financial Services Authority (OJK) continues to remind the public not to be easily trapped in fraud under the guise of or in the name of investment. Especially in the midst of this digital era, various social media have become one of the effective means for perpetrators of investment fraud. Therefore, the public should be more vigilant, increase financial literacy and be smarter in using social media.

These are some of the things conveyed by the Chairman of the OJK Board of Commissioners, Prof. Wimboh Santoso, SE., MSc., Ph.D on Monday (14/3/2022) after inaugurating the new OJK Malang office at Jalan Letjen Sutoyo No. 109-111 in the local city. According to him, every citizen should not be easily tempted by various investment offers that offer large or tempting profits in a short time and make sure the investment company is a legal company and registered with the OJK.

Regarding this, Wimboh said that his party together with related ranks, such as local governments and investment alert task forces will continue to provide financial literacy for the community. Likewise, if there are reports from the community, they will be followed up quickly. On the other hand, for residents who feel or are indicated to be victims of illegal investment, they should immediately report to the OJK or the local police.

The statement was agreed by the Mayor of Malang, Drs. H. Sutiaji, who was also present and inaugurated the new OJK office. According to him, it must be admitted that public literacy related to the financial industry or services is still relatively low, so that reinforcement is needed from various parties, especially from the OJK. "Currently, our society needs education, literacy and reinforcement related to financial services," he added.

"After the inauguration of the OJK Malang office building, we hope that this representative office can answer the problems of the financial services sector, especially regarding public financial literacy. So that later the public can avoid advertisements and offers of illegal investments or financial products," continued the number one person in the Malang City Government.

Furthermore, Mayor Sutiaji said that his party is always ready to synergize with the OJK, which is also part of the investment alert task force, to minimize the emergence or victims of fraud under the guise of investment. "If there is news from the public who feel they are victims of fraud under the guise of investment, they should immediately report it to the OJK or the police," he appealed.

No less important, Sutiaji said, in addition to being closer to the community, OJK will also increase curation or support the existence and development of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), as well as increase regional financial access through the Regional Financial Access Acceleration Team (TPAKD).

"We strongly support the program, so that in the future these UMKM players will be more advanced, developed, competitive and can penetrate the international market," he concluded. (say/ram)
