Malang City Nominated for Regional Development Award

Malang, (malangkota.go.id) – Malang City was selected as one of the nominees for the 2022 Regional Development Award (PPD) from the Ministry of National Development Planning/National Development Planning Agency (PPN/Bappenas) of the Republic of Indonesia along with 14 other cities and 16 regencies.

Malang Mayor Drs. H. Sutiaji explained the performance and innovation of Malang City development planning, in the presentation and interview process for the 2022 Regional Development Award (PPD) phase II virtually to the central assessment team at the Ngalam Command Center (NCC), Wednesday (16/3/2022).

In the presentation and interview session, Sutiaji conveyed the achievements of regional development in the economic growth of Malang City. Where the economy of Malang City grew significantly from -2,26% in 2020 to 4,21% in 2021.

"We have an acceleration strategy like in handling the pandemic, namely Malang Buy Local Products (Malpro), Malang Share (Malber), Malang Herbal (Malherb), Malang Digital Service (Maldis) and the goal is Malang Bahagia (Malba)," he explained.

The Malang City Government's commitment to restore and build the economy is one of them by revitalizing traditional markets, not only physical but also non-physical with various programs such as Sepasar Pedas, e-retribution, sobo market movement and others. Comparatively, the ranking of the open unemployment rate (TPT) of Malang City in 2021 in East Java Province has improved. Where it fell from the first highest ranking to the third which means there was a reduction.

"Poverty in Malang City in 2021 was the second lowest in East Java. With the second highest human development index (HDI) in East Java. The HDI continues to increase amid the pandemic. There is a scholarship program for students and orphans. Construction of three new public junior high schools, stimulation of One RW One hafiz," he explained.

In health insurance, he said, Malang City has achieved universal health coverage (UHC), namely 95,24% of its people have been protected. Currently, UHC in Malang City is in its 3rd year. On the other hand, the Malang City Government continues to strive to reduce the gini ratio. He added that in terms of public services, Malang City has reached the green zone which means high compliance.

"Breakthrough steps to strengthen local revenue (PAD) in the midst of the pandemic continue to be strengthened, such as through digitalization of services, tax awareness campaigns, synergy with various parties including the Malang City PKK, ease of service and others," he continued.

Furthermore, Sutiaji said that transparency and accountability are increasingly solid. Malang City has achieved the predicate of government agency performance accountability system (SAKIP) A and the predicate of fair opinion without exception (WTP) 10 times in a row.

"The 2022 Malang City RKPD is in line with the 2022 RKP and the 2022 East Java RKPD. The development priorities of Malang City are aligned with the national and East Java provincial development priorities. Because the regional government is an extension of the central government. So, we strengthen the lean organization but rich in functions," said Sutiaji.

According to Sutiaji, the pandemic did not dampen Malang City's steps towards becoming a creative digital city. This is realized with infrastructure, ecosystems and marketing in the creative economy sector that continue to be developed. One of them is through the construction of the Malang Creative Center (MCC). The construction of MCC, one of the creator incubations in Malang City. He said that this is a strength where the community is involved as a form of strengthening the hexa helix.

"From Malang for Indonesia and the world is our commitment. Building collaboration, accelerating the development of Malang City. We are here to learn together to improve what is our commitment going forward. Ngangsu kaweruh, thank you," he concluded.

PPD is an annual activity of the Ministry of PPN/Bappenas. The aim is to provide appreciation and recognition to regional governments at the provincial, district, and city levels, which demonstrate good performance in planning and achieving regional development.

In the process, PPD 2022 includes three stages of assessment, namely technical assessment of documents, presentations, and interviews and verification. There are four aspects and indicators of assessment, namely development achievement, quality of RKPD documents, RKPD documentation preparation process and innovation. The assessment stage II presentation and interview aims to obtain information and confirmation from the Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda) regarding the four assessment indicators.
