Malang Mayor Drs. H. Sutiaji gave directions on social media

Malang Mayor Drs. H. Sutiaji in his direction emphasized to be wise in using social media. Digitalization not only has an impact on habits and activity patterns, but also touches on the cultural side and characteristics of humans and society in interacting. Where social media is one form of platform that has a significant impact in this regard.

"In the midst of two major disruptions today, namely the pandemic and digitalization, the choice is to be rigid so that we retreat and are left behind because we see change as a threat. Open yourself up, adapt, and pedal forward by seeing change as an opportunity where our identity is strengthened," he said.

He explained that in Indonesia, there are 204,7 million internet users with 191,4 million active social media users which is equivalent to 68,9% of the population with an average duration of daily social media usage of 3 hours 17 minutes. The trend of internet and social media usage in Indonesia is increasing from year to year. In general, many indicators show the increasing use of the internet and social media as well as a shift in a number of platform tendencies and their use.

"Indonesia is ranked 62nd out of 70 countries, or is in the bottom 10 countries with low literacy rates. So it is vulnerable to the negative impacts of digitalization, including social media," he continued.

The impacts, he said, include the proliferation of hoaxes, digital crimes such as theft of personal data, fraud, even sexual crimes and terrorism that are so easily spread through various internet platforms including social media. In addition to the ease of spreading anger, slander and even disgrace to others, another impact is the erosion of the values and culture of the archipelago.

With these various negative impacts, Sutiaji advised to continue to be vigilant by being wiser in using the internet and social media. Such as by strengthening literacy, filtering before sharing, strengthening literacy, and filling digital space positively. According to him, strengthening literacy must be done together because it is everyone's obligation by educating from the closest environment such as family.

"Let's take advantage of the opportunities of the disruption era by growing productivity and creativity. Such as developing digital onboarding MSMEs, equipping ourselves with the technical capacity needed by the digital era and so on," said Sutiaji.

But make sure that technical ability is balanced with moral capacity, integrity and culture. Wherever, in the capacity of each city's role. Let's spread goodness, as Ki Hajar Dewantara said, ing ngarso sung tulodho, ing madyo mangun karso, tut wuri handayani.
