Malang, (malangkota.go.id) – The Mayor of Malang, represented by the Assistant for Government and Public Welfare Drs. Mulyono, M.Si was present to give a speech in a webinar entitled "Malang City's Economy Rises". This webinar was held to commemorate the 108th Anniversary of Malang City, the result of a collaboration between Tugu Media Group and OJK Malang.

Mulyono said that Malang City has begun to open its doors to boost the economy. This is supported by the improvement in various indicators of pandemic handling, such as the decline in active cases which currently remain at 69 cases and the bed occupancy ratio (BOR) has also decreased. Also supported by the recovery rate which has reached more than 95 percent.
"Economic growth in Malang City has begun to grow significantly. Malang City's economic growth has rebounded by 6,47 percent, namely in 2020 it was at -2,26 percent, in 2021 it became 4,21 percent. Where this achievement is higher than the national economic growth and East Java," he explained.
The economic growth of Malang City is also shown by the improvement in the tourism sector. The number of tourists per month has almost tripled in the last six months. Although the majority of tourists are still local tourists, namely 99,98 percent. Likewise, the hotel occupancy rate has increased, recorded in July 2021 the hotel occupancy rate was only 19,17 percent, but in December 2021 it increased to 55,89 percent.
Mulyono also echoed the tagline for the 108th anniversary of Malang City, namely collaboration, acceleration, and rising together. "Collaboration is important to create acceleration towards a shared rise. Not just thinking but also working. This recovery momentum must be optimized by Malang City. We are launching an inclusive city, so that no one is left behind, including in terms of the economy," he said.
Furthermore, Mulyono said, in accordance with the president's direction to encourage the use of domestic products, especially in the procurement of government goods and services. Micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and traditional markets, as well as tourist destinations are encouraged and strengthened. In Malang City, the heritage area and traditional markets continue to be improved.
Head of OJK Malang Sugiarto Kasmuri said that the tagline of the 108th Anniversary of Malang City, collaboration, acceleration and rising together, is very relevant in the current conditions. Where 2020 had fallen, then 2021 began to recover, and the hope is that in 2022 it can rise. To support economic recovery, OJK has a policy focus for 2022, namely increasing the role of the financial services sector to support the acceleration of national recovery and preparing the financial sector to face the normalization of developed country policies.
"In addition, OJK is increasing the role of the financial services sector in supporting the acceleration of national economic recovery and also expanding financial access to the community, especially MSMEs," he said.
Meanwhile, Head of BI Malang Representative Office Samsun Hadi said that the economic development of Malang City in 2022 will be positive. Bank Indonesia Malang estimates that performance improvements will continue in 2022 supported by the acceleration of vaccination.
"The economic recovery continues and is expected to improve. Malang City has great potential, with its various strengths, such as being a city of education, so it has a big role in the province's economic recovery," he said.
According to him, Malang City is one of the levers of East Java's economic growth, with a contribution of 3,19 percent. Economic growth has increased and the human development index (HDI) in Malang City has also increased.
However, there are several indicators that are challenges for the economic recovery of Malang City, namely the increasing poor population, the increasing open unemployment rate (TPT), and the increasing gini ratio. As a real form, Bank Indonesia's support for economic recovery in Malang City is one of them by fostering MSMEs in Malang City. (ari/ram)
