Malang, (malangkota.go.id) – On Tuesday (5/4/2022) afternoon, a video of residents recording a house collapsing on the banks of the Brantas River went viral. The incident apparently occurred in the area of RT 5 RW 6, Kotalama Village, Kedungkandang District. This incident was triggered by heavy rain in the last few days so that the strong current of water in the Brantas River eroded the riverbank which was filled with residential areas.

On Wednesday (6/4/2022), the Mayor of Malang, Drs. H. Sutiaji, together with the Commander of Division II of the Malang Strategic Reserves Command, Major General TNI Dwi Wahyu Winarto, inspected the disaster location and distributed a number of aids to residents. The number one person in the Malang City Government said that although there were no fatalities, Muhammad Kholil's house was badly damaged.
The bespectacled man added that 10 other houses suffered minor to moderate damage and were threatened with collapse. Because it is predicted that rain will still fall with high intensity which will also erode the riverbank.
From this natural disaster, residents from 11 families (KK) were evacuated to simple rental flats (rusunawa) owned by the Malang City Government. Some residents who are worried about their safety can also occupy the rusunawa if possible or there is still space.
"After this incident, we will coordinate with the River Basin Office (BBWS) and a number of residents living in the river basin. Later, they will be moved to rusunawa or to another place on land owned by the Malang City Government. "What is certain is that we will fully assist these 11 families," said Sutiaji.
He further said, so actually from the Malang City Government there has been an early warning in each vulnerable area. The RT head has also conveyed that there has been mitigation and this area is prone to landslides. "We from the city government in this case have also conveyed to the community, as well as to BBWS that this is a vulnerable and vulnerable area," he explained.
Meanwhile, Pangdivif II Kostrad Maj. Gen. TNI Dwi Wahyu Winarto admitted that he was ready to synergize and help the Malang City Government in overcoming various problems of residents. "Our soldiers and certainly from the Police will help the local government wherever and whenever needed," he said. (say/ram)
