Expert Study Results, Blimbing Underpass Reduces Traffic Jams by 64 Percent

Malang, (malangkota.go.id) – The Malang City Government (Pemkot) continues to strive to alleviate traffic congestion problems, one of which is by designing the construction of an underpass. Currently, the technical process for handling the Blimbing intersection, Malang City, is underway.

Malang Mayor Drs. H. Sutiaji attended the Presentation of the Technical Aspect Study of the Construction of the Blimbing Intersection Underpass

As a process of consolidating the realization of the underpass construction, the Mayor of Malang, Drs. H. Sutiaji, attended the Presentation of the Technical Aspect Study of the Construction of the Blimbing Intersection Underpass, Malang City, in the Meeting Room of the Rectorate Building, 9th Floor, State University of Malang, Thursday (7/4/2022).

Mayor Sutiaji appreciated the final report of the technical study on handling the Blimbing intersection submitted by the Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, State University of Malang.

"We would like to thank the academic community and the team from UM who, thank God, worked hard, smart, and fast. Because they have helped us a lot. Hopefully, later it will only be improvements related to field conditions," he explained.

According to him, if by reducing the construction of the underpass, the degree of saturation (DS) at the Blimbing intersection can experience a reduction or decrease of an average of 64 percent, then it is extraordinary. The underpass was chosen because it does not interfere with the economic activities of the surrounding community. So it is expected to increase economic growth and its financing is not high compared to the overpass.

"Why we use underpass, not overpass, has been explained earlier and including the cost. The improvements will be made by us in Detail Engineering Design (DED). Ideally there will be six lanes, if so far there are two lanes. So the right side lane has two lanes, the left side has two lanes and the bottom has two lanes," he explained.

Sutiaji further explained that improvements will continue to be made and will be submitted to the central government.

Lecturer of Civil Engineering Department Dr. Dwi Siswahyudi, MT said, based on the analysis of local soil conditions, it was declared feasible for the underpass construction plan. "For drainage, a sump will be made with the help of a pump to channel water to the existing drainage," said Dwi.

According to him, looking at the field conditions by considering the aesthetic factors, the construction of the underpass is the right condition. There are two adjacent intersections and considering the field conditions, the underpass is planned to be 520 meters long.

He hopes that the construction of this underpass, in addition to improving the quality of traffic performance and reducing congestion levels, can also increase economic growth in Malang City.

Also present were the Rector of Malang State University Prof. Dr. AH, Rofi'uddin, M.Pd, Chairman of the Audit Committee Prof. Dr. Ir.
