Towards an Inclusive City, Ciptomulyo Urban Village Accommodates the Needs of the Disabled

Malang, (malangkota.go.id) – The sky blue multipurpose room at the Ciptomulyo Sub-district Office, Malang City, felt so lively with the cheerful laughter of disabled children who attended the distribution of 1.000 copies of the Al-Quran, Wednesday (20/4/2022) evening.

Community activities for people with disabilities

The activity was full of messages of social inclusion initiated by the TurunTangan Malang Berbagi community and Waroeng Inklusi Malang in collaboration with the Ciptomulyo Sub-district.

"Alhamdulillah, it's positive and I'm very happy to be able to facilitate our disabled brothers and sisters in distributing the Quran. Earlier, there was also a poetry reading event, singing together, and recitation," said Ciptomulyo Village Head Imbar Hadi Wintjoko, S.Pt.

Imbar said that the effort to accommodate the activities of people with disabilities is a form of commitment to support the policy of the Mayor of Malang, Drs. H. Sutiaji, namely to realize a Malang City that is friendly to people with disabilities.

The idea of inclusive development is indeed substantively the emphasis of the third mission of Malang City development. So far it has continued to be grounded through a series of programs and activities, both at the city level and the sub-district level.

Starting from the implementation of thematic musrenbang for people with disabilities, social rehabilitation posts, disability therapy, socialization of the rights of people with disabilities, assistance with equipment and food, training, event facilitation to the provision of disability-friendly facilities in public offices.

A series of innovations are also present, such as the Library Braille Corner Service, Braille Population Administration Document Innovation, and BREXIT from the Janti Health Center. Data from the Malang City Social Service P3AP2KB states that the number of people with disabilities in Malang City as the main target group for various programs reached 2.927 people in 2020.

"Although small, but our spirit wants to contribute. That's why we also try to make the Ciptomulyo office, services and environment more friendly to the disabled, because we are all brothers and sisters," concluded Imbar.

"We continue to strengthen and expand protection, access and empowerment for our brothers and sisters, including information technology literacy and disaster training," explained Sutiaji in a series of implementations of the Disability Musrenbang held in mid-February.

Amidst the twists and turns of the challenges of realizing the inclusive development agenda in Malang City, there is a flame of hope that continues to glow through small pieces of joint efforts. The great contribution of various disability care institutions, academics, the business world, and communities combined with the increasingly strong support of the Malang City Government's facilitation.
