Kartini Day, Ida Ayu Says Indonesian Women Dare to Lead the Nation

Malang, (malangkota.go.id) – If in the past the image of women who worked more in the private sector, nowadays the role of women is much broader. Especially in essential public sectors related to national development.

In the context of national development, there have been quite a lot of contributions of thought and energy given and applied by the Kartini cadres. One of the Kartini cadres whose role can be seen in society is the figure of Dr. Ida Ayu Made Wahyuni, SH., M.Si, Head of the Youth, Sports and Tourism Office (Disporapar) of Malang City.

"However, we (women), can carry out the activities that we are doing now. Because there is a very important role of RA Kartini to advance Indonesian women," said Ida Ayu.

The woman who has served as the Head of Disporapar since 2020 assessed that in the context of development, the role of women is not only as a mother and the pillar of the family. But also playing a role as a public servant, of course, can have a very good impact on development, especially in Malang City.

"But in general, there have been many women in Indonesia who have dared to step forward as national leaders, we even had a female president, namely Mrs. Megawati Soekarno Putri," he added.

In the Malang City Government environment, Ida sees that in terms of quantity, the involvement of women themselves, both in the executive and legislative institutions, may not actually meet the minimum quota recommended by the government, which is 30% of all members. However, this does not mean that the voices of women out there are not represented by the office holders in Malang City.

Some of these female representatives have dared to speak out regarding policy making. However, Ida hopes that there will be more female cadres who can join the Malang City Government environment, and play a more active role in giving their voices.

"If we dare to speak up and fight for women's rights, then of course this will be able to influence the policies made by the legislature and executive," he explained.

As one of the female leaders in the Malang City Government, Ida began her leadership career in 2010, when she was appointed as Head of the Culture and Tourism Office (Disbudpar). Three years later, she was trusted to serve as Head of the Industry and Trade Office, before finally returning to Disbudpar a year later.

Having served as the Head of Disbudpar for a long time, this woman from Bali had the opportunity to lead two agencies at once in 2019. She was trusted to hold a concurrent position as Acting Head of the Youth and Sports Agency (Dispora) of Malang City. Then in 2020, when the Tourism Agency merged with Dispora, she was entrusted as the Head of Disporapar until now.

Having a long career journey, this pop music fan explained, the challenge she felt when having to lead a large organization was, having to realize that there was a difference between her role and her main portion of taking care of the family. She saw that female leaders had advantages in terms of patience, precision, and caution in carrying out their roles.

"Being careful does not mean we are afraid and do not dare to do something, but we feel we have to be smart and more detailed in controlling something. Especially in being responsible for what has been done. This may be different from male colleagues who are more willing to take risks," he said.

Playing the role of a mother who protects many people in a work environment is certainly different from the role of a mother in the family. "As a mother at home, we can be more honest in conveying our intentions and goals. However, in a work environment, there are many things to consider," she continued. (ayu/ram)
