Malang, (malangkota.go.id) – Kartini Day celebration is identical with traditional clothing, especially kebaya. Because RA Kartini was always associated with kebaya clothing during her life. However, for Ir. Yayuk Hermiati, MH, Head of the Infrastructure and Natural Resources Economy Division who is also a mother, there is a deep meaning in Kartini Day, not just about kebaya and buns.
"After becoming a mother, a woman who is given responsibility, I just realized the meaning," said Yayuk Hermiati to the Kendedes Media Center Reporter, Wednesday (20/4/2022).
According to her, being a mother is expected to give birth to a golden generation. A mother has a great responsibility to be a role model and educate children in the family. Thanks to Kartini's struggle, women can get their rights, such as access to education, have a career anywhere, and express their opinions.
"With Kartini, it opened the eyes of the world, not only Indonesia, that women must also have a role. In the past, it was considered that women's roles were behind, not on the side. But now, with Kartini Day being commemorated every year, their roles are equal. because mothers give birth to children who are expected to give birth to future generations," said Yayuk
In her career journey, there were challenges faced in the process. Like when she served as Secretary of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Malang City. At that time, the agency was newly formed and of course there were many things that had to be arranged and fixed. She was the only woman among the heads of BPBD and heads of divisions.
"Why does the creation of the organizational structure start from the staff first, it cannot be from the staff directly to the head. We have to go through the positions from the first, second and subsequent levels. Because there is certainly an experience that will befall the employee to be more advanced," continued Yayuk.
When asked about her opinion on the role of women in development, she gave an example of the launching of the Sam Gepun Basa application by the Malang City Government. There, all the mothers were the admins in collecting data to contribute to development. Women who are active. Another example is the Sub-district Health Center which is active in distributing food coupons for the underprivileged in the Malang City Government's subsidized food program, in order to control inflation, which is also dominated by mothers.
"Don't underestimate women in development, even though they are not visible, they are also moving. Their role is big, they support the development process. They also make a big contribution," he concluded.
Some women in Indonesia are still "colonized" or have their rights taken away by people in their environment, and continue to fight to achieve them. For example, many women experience domestic violence (KDRT), so a law was born to protect women ahead of the 2022 Kartini Day commemoration. Therefore, women are grateful for the enactment of this law.
According to her, women must struggle like waves hitting rocks, must be strong. A mother must be able to be a role model for the golden generation. If you borrow the Javanese term 'koco brenggolo' so a mother becomes a role model for her children, while in the office becomes a role model for her subordinates.
