Commemorating Kartini Day, Health Office Holds Free Cervical and Breast Cancer Screening

Malang, (malangkota.go.id) – The high number of cancer cases in women has encouraged the Malang City Government through the Health Service (Dinkes) to organize Early Detection of Cervical Cancer and Breast Cancer through IVA Tests and clinical breast examinations (Sadanis).

Health checks for women

This activity will be held from April 20-22, 2022, and will be provided free of charge to the people of Malang City who have registered in advance.

Head of the Malang City Health Office, Dr. Husnul Muarif, stated that this activity was carried out in order to commemorate Kartini Day. Unexpectedly, it turned out that the public's enthusiasm was quite high and exceeded the initial target.

"Finally we limited serving 375 people for three days, 125 people each day. This activity is purely an initiative of the Health Office and uses the Malang City APBD, so there is no need to spend money," said Dr. Husnul.

He hopes that cases of cervical and breast cancer in Malang City can be suppressed as early as possible. If there are indications, there will be a grade and will be followed up with referrals to hospitals or treatment at health centers.

Meanwhile, Head of the Prevention and Control Section of Non-Communicable Diseases and Mental Health of the Malang City Health Office, drg. Muhamad Zamroni revealed that the target for cervical cancer screening in 2022 in Malang City is 40 percent of the total number of women of childbearing age, namely 30-50 years or around 50.952.

"From the target, there is a possibility that some suffer from cervical cancer. So we started at the Health Office, we did it en masse like this and the public response was quite good, even beyond expectations. It is hoped that early detection must be carried out on as many targets as possible. Thus, if there are positive cases, follow-up will be given as soon as possible," said Zamroni.

Furthermore, Zamroni revealed, so far the target of cervical and breast cancer detection is still minimal. Especially for the IVA test, many mothers are not yet aware that they have symptoms. Public awareness to check themselves is still lacking for the IVA and Sadanis tests.

"Therefore, we intensify education through health promotion. With early detection so that there is no delay in handling so that it can recover faster. Many are embarrassed on average," he concluded.

Not only cervical and breast cancer screening, on this occasion also provided screening for non-communicable diseases (PTM), namely height, weight, waist circumference, blood sugar, and blood pressure. In order to maintain body health, each participant will also receive multivitamins for one month.

"We will also intensify this because the government has stipulated that 100 percent of citizens aged 15-59 years must be screened for health, especially non-communicable diseases. Because this is one of the indicators of minimum service standards in the health sector," he said.

The public is expected to be able to check themselves at the health center or posbindu in each RW for free. The bespectacled man also mentioned that the Malang City Health Office has a Jemput Bola Free Examination of Non-Communicable Diseases (Jebol Perintis PTM) program.

One of the examination participants, Yoan Purnama Sari from Arjosari, expressed his appreciation for the cervical and breast cancer examination activities.

"I am very grateful that there is this activity, so that I can find out the condition of my femininity. So far I have never had a test like this. Because I was afraid, they said it hurts. But as time goes by there are many cases of cancer, so I dare myself. Hopefully the results are good and in the future we can do more intensive activities like this. Because it is indeed very useful for mothers like us," she said. (ari/ram)
