Four-Wheeled Vehicles Prohibited from Crossing the Splendid Bridge

Malang, (malangkota.go.id) – The Malang City Government (Pemkot) through the Transportation Agency (Dishub) has restricted vehicles passing through the Splendid Bridge, Monday (25/4/2022). This step was taken as a form of early anticipation of the physical condition of one side of the bridge foundation which was affected by flooding some time ago.

Dishub officers guard traffic so that no one crosses the bridge

"Today, we have put barrels with weights on both sides and signs prohibiting four-wheeled vehicles from crossing while waiting for the bridge to be repaired. We hope that road users can obey it, for the sake of mutual safety," said Head of the Malang City Transportation Agency Heru Mulyono, S.IP., MT.

Furthermore, Heru said, his party will continue to evaluate the restriction rules by paying attention to the physical condition of the bridge. Previously, the Cooperatives, Industry and Trade Service (Diskopindag) had also installed banners urging vehicles not to cross the bridge section.

Condition of the damaged bridge

Due to the closure, the Transportation Agency appealed to the public, especially those bringing four-wheeled vehicles from the east, when going to Splendid Market to turn around via the Jalan Brawijaya entrance.

Separately, the Head of the Public Works, Spatial Planning, Housing and Settlement Areas Agency (DPUPRPKP) of Malang City, Ir. Diah Ayu Kusumadewi, MT revealed that the initial scenario for bridge repairs will be handled in 2023.

"The budget is planned for 2023. Because construction requires detailed engineering design (DED) before construction. So the time required is quite long, the estimate exceeds the range of the 2022 regional revenue and expenditure budget (P-APBD) change period which is usually only two or three months," said Diah.
