Malang, (malangkota.go.id) – Ahead of Eid, the Mayor of Malang, Drs. H. Sutiaji, together with the Malang City Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID), monitored the availability and affordability of basic necessities and prices at several points in Malang City, Wednesday (27/4/2022).

Mayor Sutiaji did not deny the increase in several basic necessities in the market. Almost all of them have increased, this increase is not because of high demand ahead of Eid, but also due to the increase in fuel prices (BBM).
"Usually, if there is no increase in fuel prices, there is also an increase in the prices of basic commodities, although it is not significant," he said.
Sutiaji said that the commodity that has the leverage of inflation is cooking oil. However, he ensured that the availability of cooking oil until now remains safe.
"Sugar also increased, although not significantly. A significant increase was in wheat flour, which increased by almost 20 percent per kilogram, as well as chili and shallots. Rice prices are still standard, the one that increased quite a lot was chicken, that's normal, increasing by around Rp5.000,00. For eggs, I think the increase is also not significant, only around Rp1.000,00," said Sutiaji.
Regarding fuel, Sutiaji also revealed that the availability of BBM and LPG is being attempted to be sufficient to meet the needs of the community. Pertamina has also calculated the existence of BBM reserves to anticipate increasing demand.
“No need to worry. The goods here are ready, but don't let there be any delays or obstacles in the field when supplying goods. The public does not need to panic. Bulog also said that our food availability will last for the next six months. We have 6.000 tons available at Bulog," said the bespectacled man.
He reminded the public not to panic buy. "Tell the public not to panic, that goods are available, all of them, LPG, gasoline and other basic necessities," he requested.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Bank Indonesia Representative Office (KPwBI) Malang, Samsun Hadi, said that the role of TPID here is primarily to ensure the availability of basic necessities, both food and fuel.
"The most important thing is that the needs of the community during Eid are met properly. We will continue to monitor the price movements of basic necessities. We have also monitored basic necessities which do have an annual cycle of increasing," he said. (ari/ram)
