Head of Malang City Agriculture and Food Security Agency Sri Winarni, SH., MM revealed that after conducting socialization, the urban farming competition last April had entered the assessment stage by the jury team. Starting May 9, 2022, the assessment team traveled to various areas in Malang City.

"There are 57 sub-districts in Malang City that are being assessed. According to the rundown, the current assessment is the first stage assessment," explained Sri Winarni.

The first stage of assessment will take place from May to June 2022. The second stage of urban farming competition assessment will be in August 2022.

"We will announce the results of the urban farming competition assessment in October 2022 during the commemoration of World Food Day," explained Sri Winarni.

Sri Winarni added that the urban farming competition is an effort to provide guidance to food crop farming groups in Malang City. The community utilizes limited yard space to still be able to meet the nutritional needs of the family.

"Socialization, technical guidance related to food crop cultivation has been done. To encourage people to be more active in utilizing their yards, an urban farming competition was held," said Sri Winarni.

In urban farming, residents do not only utilize food crops. But also for fisheries and livestock. The hope is that through limited land, the community can meet the nutritional needs of the family and also earn income.

"The ultimate goal is for food availability at the community level in realizing family welfare," explained Sri Winarni. (cah/ram)
