Malang (malangkota.go.id) – Malang Mayor Drs. H. Sutiaji expressed his optimism about increasing economic growth in Malang City. This was conveyed at the halalbihalal event held with the financial services industry in Malang City at the Malang City Financial Services Authority (OJK) Office, Tuesday (17/5/2022).

"This can be a good capital for Malang City, so come on, I also invite financial service industries to increase the economic activity of Malang City," said Sutiaji.
It shows a significant increase in the economic growth rate of Malang City which was previously at -2,26% in 2020. Then it increased to 4,21% in 2021. It was recorded that inflation in Malang City reached the highest figure compared to other cities in Indonesia at 4,3%.
"The figure is interpreted positively and is expected to reflect the increasing purchasing power of the people of Malang City," he continued.
Sutiaji also explained the supporting factors that will be the focus in efforts to increase economic growth in Malang City post-pandemic, such as strengthening the ecosystem and marketing of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), activating tourist destinations, providing easy access to business, strengthening supporting infrastructure including digitalization, and strengthening financial inclusion and literacy for the community.
Currently, he said, the sectoral indicator of tourism as the dominant sector contributing to economic growth figures in Malang City shows a positive trend. Where the number of tourists each month has increased threefold in the last six months, with 99,99% of guests and dominated by domestic tourists.
"I hope this number will continue to increase, especially along with the withdrawal of the Kayutangan tourism project which will be the prima donna of Malang City tourism," said Sutiaji.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Financial Services Industry Communication Forum (FKIJK) of Malang City, Sugiharto Kasmuri, assessed that the inflation rate in Malang City, which is also the highest nationally, can still be said to be quite normal.
"We have to see the behavior of the community whether there is a massive withdrawal of funds or not. It turns out that in the conditions of Malang City, what happened was that more funds came in, resulting in growth and third parties were in the range of 6%, making the banking condition quite stable," explained Kasmuri, who is also the Chairman of the Malang OJK.
In the future, Sugiharto said, the banking sector will face challenges on various issues, such as the threat of increasing non-performing loans, as well as renormalization policies after the Covid-19 pandemic.
"The financial sector is still well controlled, stability is also still well maintained, and NPL in Malang City is still at 2,8% and still far from the red light limit at 5%," he added. (ayu/ram)
