Malang (malangkota.go.id) – The Malang City Government through the Food Security and Agriculture Service together with the Fish Consumption Improvement Forum (Forikan) held the 2022 Popular Fish Eating Movement (Gemarikan) at the Kartini Building, Tuesday (14/6/2022).

This is considering the importance of fish consumption as a source of nutrition to increase interest in eating fish in families, especially children. This activity began with the launch of Gemarikan comics, a storytelling competition for PAUD teachers, and the socialization of Gemarikan.
Head of Forikan Malang City Widayati Sutiaji, S.Sos., MM revealed that storytelling can educate children to consume fish. Therefore, this storytelling competition is intended for PAUD teachers throughout Malang City.
"The hope is to be able to socialize to young children that they should like to eat fish. So the target is indeed PAUD teachers who are members of the dignified human education (PIB). There are 154 PAUD units and today there are 20 best who are presenting. I think if in each PAUD there are teachers like this (who can tell stories), God willing, the community will like to eat fish. In PAUD, education is through play and the essence has been obtained from this competition. This is an innovation from Malang City," he said.
Widayati hopes that by increasing fish consumption, children's intelligence will also increase. Thus, it is also expected to reduce poverty in Malang City.
"We created this innovation to increase the fish consumption rate which was around 36,14 kg/capita last year. That number has been increasing from year to year. If we talk about stunting, the goal is also to eliminate stunting in Malang City which has been decreasing every year," he explained.
Widayati further revealed that her party has carried out various activities for this Gemarikan campaign. "We make socialization, make fish-eating competitions that are expected for children who do not like to eat fish to see the shape directly and can be made into various processed foods. We also work with universities and private companies to provide CSR, support our activities," she concluded. (ari/ram)
