Malang, (malangkota.go.id) – Ahead of Eid al-Adha, the Malang City Government (Pemkot) is strengthening literacy for the public regarding the slaughter of sacrificial animals in the current situation of the foot and mouth disease (FMD) outbreak.

Malang Mayor Drs. H. Sutiaji in the Coordination Meeting for the Slaughter of Sacrificial Animals in the Meeting Room of Malang City Hall, Monday (20/6/2022), emphasized that FMD is not contagious and does not affect human health. So there is no need for worry, anxiety and doubt.
In the coordination meeting attended by representatives of 80 mosque administrators in Malang City, it is hoped that the community will gain literacy regarding the slaughter of sacrificial animals.
Mayor Sutiaji said that strengthening socialization and education based on appropriate information from experts in their fields to the community regarding PMK will continue to be strengthened. So that there is no disinformation or distortion that causes doubt, uncertainty or anxiety in the community regarding the implementation of sacrificial animals ahead of Eid al-Adha, July 9, 2022.
"Later there will be a circular from the Indonesian Mosque Council (DMI), if the MUI fatwa is clear about which animals can be slaughtered and so on. This PMK has no correlation with human diseases. The result of this coordination meeting is one, there is still mitigation related to animals entering the region from outside. There must be a letter stating that the animal is healthy," he said.
Second, related to the possibility of buyers' concerns about the death of sacrificial animals that have been handed over to the takmir, Sutiaji said that the Malang City Government will continue to check and monitor each animal. In addition, it can also be deposited at the Malang City slaughterhouse (RPH) which will be controlled en masse.
"In one of the appeals, there is no mosque that does not accept sacrificial animals. We will also strengthen literacy to the public that beef that is exposed to FMD does not affect human health. The Malang City Government continues to monitor and handle FMD quickly. The development, the recovery rate in Malang City is quite high, currently only 64 cows are still undergoing treatment from 296 cows indicated by FMD at the time," explained Sutiaji.
Regarding excessive concerns in the community, the MUI has issued the Indonesian Ulema Council Fatwa Number 32 of 2022 concerning the Law and Guidelines for Implementing Qurban Worship during FMD Outbreaks. In the fatwa, the criteria for which sacrificial animals may and may not be slaughtered have been explained. So he appealed to the public to be vigilant, but wise and calm in responding to the FMD outbreak that occurred ahead of Eid al-Adha.
"Mitigation of sacrificial animals to be sold will be strengthened, it will be monitored from where the readiness is like. So as to avoid unwanted things.
Dispangtan also continues to go around to ensure that the sacrificial animals are healthy. Previously, a task force was also formed which also consisted of the police and TNI. Not only those affected by FMD but also how to ensure that farmers get literacy. Continue to go around so that the cattle in Malang City farmers are healthy," he concluded. (eka/ram)
