Malang, (malangkota.go.id) – The development of Kayutangan Heritage zone III resulted in an interesting finding of an old channel that is estimated to still be functional. The channel, which is estimated to have been built during the Dutch colonial era, is located around a car dealer building near the Basra Pedestrian Bridge (JPO).

This interesting finding was discovered during the activities of the Malang City Government's joint team identifying advertisements and fiber optic cables, Friday (24/6/2022).
Acting Head of the Public Works, Housing and Settlement Area Planning Agency (DPUPRPKP) of Malang City, Ir. Diah Ayu Kusumadewi, MT revealed that the findings of the colonial heritage channels need to be studied further before being decided to be included in the Kayutangan drainage system.
"We have heard that there is a Dutch utility network around Kayutangan. But the exact location was only discovered during this excavation. Later, we will study it first whether it can still be used," explained Diah.
From initial observations, the structure of the old channel is still relatively good. However, much of the space is covered by sediment. The channel flows towards the north with the Brantas River outlet.
Spraying with high-pressure water is one of the options conveyed by the Head of the Malang City Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) Heru Mulyono, S.IP., MT as a collaborative effort to clean the sediment. "Later we will try to help clean it by spraying with a fire truck," said Heru who was part of the advertising and cable team.
The development work of Kayutangan Heritage Zone III has now entered the excavation stage for widening the sidewalk. In addition, the installation of utility systems on the east side and part of the west side of Jalan Basuki Rahmat has also begun. Residents are advised to be careful and reduce speed when passing.
