Head of General Sub-Division of Perumda Tunas Dedi Eko Pradekso revealed, although not as much as the previous year, this year the slaughter of sacrificial animals at the RPH still took place. A total of 89 cows were slaughtered at the RPH.

"Today there are still sacrificial cows being slaughtered at the RPH. The number is indeed not as many as last year. Last year the RPH slaughtered 159 cows for three days during Eid al-Adha," explained Dedi.

Although not as much as last year, Dedi said, the service of Perumda Tunas Kota Malang for slaughtering sacrificial animals continues to maintain the quality of service. Where during the slaughter of sacrificial animals, the team was accompanied by five veterinarians from Brawijaya University's medical school, five from the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Brawijaya University, and one doctor in charge from Perumda Tunas.

"RPH also ensures that the cattle slaughtered are healthy and free from foot and mouth disease (FMD) so that they are truly good for public consumption," explained Dedi.

The sacrificial animals slaughtered at the RPH have also undergone antemortem and postmortem examinations. This step is taken to ensure that the sacrificial animals are free from FMD.

"The slaughter of sacrificial animals is also carried out by slaughterers who already have a halal slaughter certificate (Juleha). "So it is ensured that the sacrificial meat is healthy, slaughtered correctly and halal according to Sharia," said Dedi.

The purpose of slaughtering sacrificial animals at the RPH is expected to ensure that all parts of the sacrificial animal can be cut clean including from viruses. Where currently in East Java there is an outbreak of FMD. (cah/ram)
