Klojen, (malangkota.go.id) – On the first day of school, the Malang City Education and Culture Office (Disdikbud) introduced the Independent Learning curriculum at SMP Negeri 1 Malang, Monday (18/7/2022).

Present at the event, the Head of the Malang City Education and Culture Office, Suwarjana, SE., MM, also introduced the Merdeka Belajar curriculum. According to him, the Merdeka Belajar education curriculum raises the profile of Pancasila students.
Suwarjana said that with the introduction of Merdeka Belajar, it is hoped that it can inspire students and develop character in students. "This is very good for students who are undergoing the introduction to the school environment (MPLS) for the 2022/2023 academic year," said Suwarjana.
The introduction of Merdeka Belajar is important for these junior high school students. Because in elementary school (SD) they still have not received the material and are still following the old curriculum. In this theme, it also has many good meanings to be understood by MPLS students.
"Now we are introducing a new curriculum, namely Merdeka Belajar with the theme of Pancasila student profiles, of course this is to develop students' character," explained Suwarjana.
Suwarjana also appealed to schools not to make it difficult for students and the community during the MPLS period. According to him, students do not need to be burdened with carrying items that are unrelated to learning and character education. For example, carrying raffia rope and others. In addition, Suwarjana also appealed not to be required to wear junior high school uniforms in general. Because schools are not charged any fees.
"Today, students wear the uniforms they have. There is no limit to how long they can wear it," Suwarjana said.
The most important thing is to create an atmosphere so that students are enthusiastic about school so that their potential can develop well. Through this path, it is hoped that children in Malang City will increasingly have strong personalities and characters.
Meanwhile, the Principal of SMP Negeri 1 Malang Risna Widyawati said that the MPLS activities at SMP Negeri 1 Malang were made interesting and did not burden students. Students were introduced to various interesting activities at school from an early age to be followed according to their talents and potentials.
"In the MPLS, various extracurricular activities in schools will also be introduced by holding demonstrations. In order to increase children's interest," said Risna. (cah/ram)
