Sutiaji congratulated one of the nation's figures, namely Surya Dharma Paloh, on the awarding of an honorary doctorate degree by the FISIP Universitas Brawijaya Malang on Monday (25/7/2022). According to him, this award is quite worthy and appropriate because the role of the man who is often called Surya Paloh has been quite significant so far.
Although the moment is close to the simultaneous elections in 2024, said Mayor Sutiaji, the award is legitimate. Because it is the authority of the FISIP Universitas Brawijaya Malang. "If the campus considers a person who is a figure meets the criteria to receive an honorary degree, then it is permissible," he said.
The bespectacled man said that the world of politics cannot always be underestimated but depends on who brings it. He gave an example of national politics that everyone has the right to be a leader and leadership does not belong to a group or faction.
Furthermore, the number one person in the Malang City Government said that the statement was also conveyed by Surya Paloh in his speech at this moment. "So that in the future it is hoped that national leaders will be born who have cumulative values for all components of this nation," explained Sutiaji.
Meanwhile, Dean of FISIP Universitas Brawijaya Malang, Dr. Sholih Mu'adi, SH., M.Si said that the awarding of this honorary degree had gone through various comprehensive considerations and assessments. "It is not easy to give this honorary degree which is the first time FISIP has done this. Because at the beginning, Mr. Surya Paloh was not very pleased," he said. (say/ram)
