Malang, (malangkota.go.id) – Law enforcement measures carried out by the Malang City Government (Pemkot), Customs and Excise and the TNI/Polri ranks succeeded in securing hundreds of packs of illegal cigarettes in an operation held in the Kedungkandang District area, Tuesday (23/8/2022).
Head of the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP), Heru Mulyono, S.IP., MT said that this operation was part of a program to eradicate illegal excise goods that have the potential to harm the state.
"Excise is a state levy on certain goods that have certain characteristics including cigarettes. So we control illegal cigarettes so that the state and society are not harmed," explained Heru.
Heru added that the total personnel deployed in the operation amounted to 44 people. Consisting of elements of Satpol PP, Diskopindag, Customs Office, Denpom, Malang City Police and Kodim 0833.
The two main target locations for the team were the old Mergosono Market and one of the shops on Jalan Selat Bengkalis.
From shops in the old Mergosono Market area, 122 packs of illegal cigarettes were found. Meanwhile, from the second location on Jalan Selat Bengkalis, 345 packs of illegal cigarettes were found.
"We immediately confiscated everything and then secured it by Malang Customs officers for further investigation. We also educated the public in the process," added Heru.
Similar joint operations will certainly continue to be held by the Malang City Government together with Customs and Excise and related agencies in other sub-districts in order to enforce excise regulations as regulated in Law Number 39 of 2007.
The more orderly implementation of excise provisions will also have a positive impact on the allocation of Tobacco Excise Revenue Sharing Funds (DBHCHT) which are reused for public welfare, health and law enforcement. (ndu/ram)
