Lowokwaru, (malangkota.go.id) – Starting from the desire to process household waste so that it does not cause harm, residents of RT 11 RW 1, Tunjungsekar Village, Malang City, now have a new business by utilizing empty land as a maggot cultivation business.

Head of RT 11 RW 1 Tunjungsekar Village, Dimas revealed that the maggot business that was being pursued in his RT was carried out during the Covid-19 pandemic. Because many residents have no activities. One of the activities carried out is raising maggots to process household waste.
"For plastic waste, there is already a Waste Bank that processes it. Meanwhile, organic waste at that time had not been processed, so we finally collected it for the maggot business," explained Dimas, Thursday (25/8/2022).
From the beginning just to try, Dimas said that currently maggot cultivation has become a profitable business. Because maggots have a selling value, whether sold in the form of maggots or sold as maggot eggs.
"Rather than cultivating catfish or tilapia, it turns out that cultivating maggots is more profitable," explained Dimas.
Not only the maggots bring benefits, maggot droppings are also very good for fertilizer. This is very helpful for residents in caring for plants around the house with organic fertilizer.
To sell maggots, Dimas admitted that he had no difficulty. Because many buyers are looking for maggots for animal feed, such as chickens, birds, and fish.
"No need to go out of town, maggot buyers come to our place themselves. The maggots we produce are of good quality. Because we use household waste for our feed," explained Dimas. (cah/ram)
