Sipping Black Dawet at Kajoetangan Heritage Village

Malang, (malangkota.go.id) – The designation of several areas around Kayutangan, Malang City as Kampoeng Heritage Kajoetangan since 2018 has had a major impact on the economy of residents because many have opened businesses.

One of the Traditional Snack Business Houses Dawet Ireng in Kampoeng Heritage Kajoetangan

If you walk through this tourist village, you will certainly find many types of businesses owned by residents. Like what Niken Andriani did, one of Kayutangan's residents who opened a business in her house by selling drinks and various traditional snacks.

"I opened this business since the establishment of Kampoeng Heritage. Alhamdulillah, there are quite a lot of customers, both from around here and from outside, including tourists from abroad, such as the Netherlands. Some are alone, some are in groups with guides, stopping by here too. Visitors can be on the terrace or in the living room here, please," said Niken, Friday (26/8/2022).

Niken also said that these tourists wanted to stop by because the house she lives in is also quite old, as seen from the pattern of the floor and various old furniture. "I don't know when this house was built, but as far as I know my mother-in-law bought this house in the 1986s. Local people say that the founder and first owner of this house was an Indian, then it was bought by an Arab, and finally bought by my mother," she said.

In addition, the snacks served are also unique. Niken makes dawet ireng which is not yet very popular in Malang City. In addition, there are also old snacks that are no less delicious. The price is also pocket-friendly, each menu is Rp5.000,00.

“This black dawet is made from natural ingredients. The black color comes from burnt straw, the water is taken, then mixed with other ingredients. I also sell powdered sticky rice, ongol-ongol, and other market snacks. Well, the idea of selling black dawet came from looking for something that no one else was selling. There are a lot of market snacks, there are also a lot of dawet ayu, but black dawet has not yet boomed here. In addition, my powdered sticky rice is also different. I make the powder myself, I add herbs so that the taste is different and distinctive,” he said.

Niken admitted that the closure of this village during the pandemic did have an impact on the decline in her sales turnover. However, this friendly woman racked her brains so that her products could still be marketed. Niken admitted that her processed snacks could not only be enjoyed at her shop and home, she also marketed them through social media. And it turned out that public interest was quite high.

Tourists who visit Kampoeng Heritage Kajoetangan, must stop by this place. Sip the sweet and savory fresh dawet ireng or eat delicious sticky rice powder in a comfortable old house with a friendly owner. The shop located at Jalan Semeru I/1078 is open every day from 10.00:17.00 to XNUMX:XNUMX WIB.

The Mayor of Malang, Drs. H. Sutiaji is proud of the enthusiasm of the residents in opening business fields in the Kayutangan Heritage area. Because the main purpose of improving this tourist village is to improve the economy of the residents.

"The hard work that we (Malang City Government) have done so far has paid off. Alhamdulillah, the Kayutangan Heritage area has begun to produce economic results for residents. This is what we expect from all developments in Malang City," said Sutiaji.

According to Sutiaji, the Kayutangan Heritage area will always be well maintained. So that tourists are more comfortable visiting. If visitors are increasingly crowded, then residents in this area will benefit. (ari/ram)
