Malang City Carnival, a Festival of Indonesian Culture

Malang, (malangkota.go.id) – Tens of thousands of pairs of eyes have been seen since morning filling the Kayutangan Heritage corridor, Jalan Semeru to Jalan Ijen, Malang City. The enthusiasm of residents and participants to enliven the Malang City Carnival, Sunday (11/9/2022) strengthened the aura of optimism for revival amidst global economic pressures post-pandemic.

The Malang City Carnival, initiated by the Malang City Government (Pemkot) in the framework of the 77th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia, was attended by thousands of participants from various agencies, community organizations and communities with the theme "Rise with Dignity".

The Mayor of Malang, Drs. H. Sutiaji accompanied by the Chairperson of the Malang City PKK TP, Hj Widayati Sutiaji, S.Sos., MM could not hide his pride and appreciation for the role of all parties in making this event a success.

"(This is a) form of patriotism to be grateful for independence and promotion (of culture and city potential). Thank you also to the orderly audience. This cultural parade is proof that Malang is a miniature of Indonesia," said Sutiaji who this time wore traditional clothing from West Sumatra.

In the embrace of the cool weather that has enveloped the city since morning, various culturally rich creativity from all over the archipelago entertained audiences of all ages.

Starting from typical Malang dances, bantengan, reog, Madura traditions, to the cultural richness of Sumatra, Kalimantan, Nusa Tenggara, to Papua. All of them inevitably represent the friendliness of the educational city which is a conducive oasis of knowledge for 300 thousand students from all over Indonesia.

Furthermore, Sutiaji is also optimistic that the Malang City Carnival will also drive the real economy of the community.

"This is what MUA (Make up artist) is called to come from outside the city. Costumes too. Local culinary and snack sellers are also all selling well. Automatically if the event is successful, God willing, the economy will run," added Sutiaji.

Together with the Deputy Mayor of Malang, Ir. H. Sofyan Edi Jarwoko who wore traditional Acehnese clothing, Sutiaji was also invited to come down on stage several times and mingle in the cultural tones and movements that were displayed.

The Malang City carnival event was also enlivened by spectacular attractions from the Taruna Nala marching band, the 502 marching band and the Indonesian Malang drum band association. (ndu/ram)
