The business, which has been around since 2004, was pioneered by R. Agus Salim and his wife, Marlia. "We gave it the Hercules brand, because we know that Hercules is known as the myth of the ancient Greek god who is famous for his strength. Hopefully it represents the strong quality of our products," said Marlia.
This UMKM produces various types of shoes, such as loafers, safety shoes, casual shoes, and boots. There are also sandals, bags, and wallets. "We use cowhide and snakeskin. But the majority do use cowhide. The price varies depending on the model. Because the model affects the type and amount of leather used, and the manufacturing costs are also different between ordinary and complicated models," said this friendly woman.
The woman who is familiarly called Rike explained the prices of her various products. For wallets and bags, the price starts from IDR 150.000,00. While for shoe products, the price starts from IDR 250.000,00 to IDR 1.150.000,00. Even for trail shoe products, it can reach IDR 1.700.000,00.
"We can produce custom, made by order so customers can show what model they want, then we can calculate how much it costs. The estimated production time is between one to two weeks depending on the difficulty," he said.
Furthermore, Rike said that the market for its products, especially shoes, has even reached outside the region. Hercules UMKM can also accept large orders, both from schools and companies.
"We don't just accept personal orders, but usually there are many orders from companies too, such as from mining companies from Papua, also Sulawesi and Kalimantan. At least the order is around 200 pairs if it's for a company. Usually they need safety shoes. There are also orders from schools, usually from SMKK Cor Jesu and SMK Negeri 1 Singosari," he said.
No wonder, Hercules is a favorite leather shoe for many companies and schools because its quality is guaranteed. As the name suggests, shoes produced by Malang City UMKM are famous for being strong. There is even a two-year sole warranty for safety shoes. Because of this quality, this UMKM also often participates in exhibitions facilitated by Malang City Diskopindag.
To run this business, Rike and her husband are assisted by four employees in the production and sales division. Agung, one of the employees, said that in a day he can produce around 10 to 15 pairs of shoes.
