Eltari M-230 Waste Bank Receives Researchers from Japan

Malang, (malangkota.go.id) – Eltari M-230 Waste Bank, Al Barru Farmers Bank, BSF Maggot House, Cemorokandang Village, Kedungkandang District, Malang City, a zero-waste house received a visit from Mr. Takeshi Tomomizu from Japan, Wednesday (21/9/2022).

Cemorokandang Village Head, Ahmad Ridwan, SE said, Mr. Takeshi Tomomizu's visit was a source of pride for Malang City, especially the Eltari M-230 Waste Bank. Mr. Takeshi Tomomizu is a researcher from a Japanese energy company who conducted research at the Malang Raya Waste Bank. He works in Section 2 Development Department 1 The New Value Frontier KYOCERA Corporation Minatomirai Research Center.

"Apart from Japan, students from Tribuana Tunggadewi University are also doing a three-month internship related to black soldier fly (BSF) maggots," said Ridwan.

Owner of Bank Sampah Eltari M-230, Yusuf Karyawan said, Griya Maggot BSF is a business development of Bank Sampah Eltari-230. Previously, Bank Sampah Eltari-230 had handled inorganic waste and Bank Tani Al Barru.

"Griya Maggot is our answer to solving the waste problem in Malang City, especially household waste," said Yusuf.

The business location managed by Yusuf, has now become a model and learning place for students and researchers. Most impressive, he said, was the presence of a researcher from Japan to his business, namely Mr. Takeshi Tomomizu.

"From this place we educate the community to help manage waste from home. So that it can reduce waste that must be disposed of at the landfill," said Yusuf.

The business flow managed by Yusuf is very systematic, Bank Sampah Eltari M-230 manages inorganic waste. Griya Maggot BSF to decompose organic waste. While the maggots are used for poultry, fish, bird feed, and others. Maggot cultivation waste is used for compost/organic fertilizer and is managed by Bank Tani Al Barru.

Meanwhile, an intern from Tribuana Tunggadewi University, Farida Gadibulu said she was very interested in studying at Griya Maggot BSF managed by Yusuf. According to her, through direct learning in the field, a lot of new knowledge can be obtained. For example, learning directly about maggot breeding, maintenance, harvesting, and marketing.

"After completing my internship here, I plan to develop a business like this in my hometown, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT)," he concluded. (cah/ram)
